For a bit of background, im late 20's, 2 DC. I was a Police officer in my early 20's, changing to control room staff a few years ago. Very stressful environment, carry alot of responsibility on my shoulders and i do love it. BUT, theres always a but, id LOVE to become a Midwife.

Ive had a look and would obviously have to re train. Ive had a look and presumably not something i can do at an open Uni. I never finished my second year of A levels and left before my exams and no one in my family have ever been to Uni, so i have no one to ask.

If i had to go full time at a uni, presumably id have to finish my A levels to be able to do this. Would i be eligible for any UC or similar or would we just have to struggle on DPs wage until qualified?

Not a clue where to even start looking and what would happen or id be entitled to if i made the jump

I don't know specifically about midwifery, but I do know that many universities accept mature students without A-levels if they have work/life experience. You'd be surprised actually. You should email a few university departments directly and ask. Don't be put off by the grade requirements on the website - these generally only apply to younger students and you'd be surprised what they can do for you if you make an enquiry.

My time as a police offer caused me to see things no one should ever see in their lifetime unfortunately 😕

Brilliant, thank you. I think that is going to be my best bet i think and just send a few emails.

I just wouldn't have a clue where to start. Id Probably not look to start anything until next year, get my ducks in a row 1st so to speak.

Im only just about to go back from mat leave.

You can do an access course which you can do in a year - that is in place of A levels. Google it.

Ive been talking to a friend that did it and it just seems bonkers to base my capability to do it on what i knew almost 15 years ago at school. I can see the point of using grades etc for an 18year old but for mature learners, it just doesnt make sense. Life experience and skills would be something id look for over 15 year old grades🤷‍♀️ ive emailed the uni id go to, so just waiting to hear back
