Dash Cams

Getting a "new" car and would like to set up a dash cam in it. Should we get one wired in (Halfords??) Or is there a good one with battery? I'd prefer not to have it continually set up by USB.

Just get one from Amazon that you can pop in and out of vehicles.
You can also get a gadget so you can charge your phone etc and use your dash cam.

Ive got one that plugs into the cigarette charger and turns on when the engine is on. It has a very long cable that is able to be pushed under the trim above the the windscreen , down the side of the windscreen then beside the glove compartment, under the glove compartment and then a short stretch to the lighter.

Means i can take it with me when i sell the car on.

If you are reasonably handy and you know where the fuse box is in your car you can piggy back the fuse into the box so it comes on and off automatically with the car.

Most modern ones will then save some charge in a battery to film if they feel an impact or sense movement.

I originally got mine hard-wired in by Halfords, when I traded the car in the garage removed it for me and I used a local car audio/electrical person to wire it into my new car. I didn't want cables trailing up and around from the cigarette lighter.

Get one that faces rear too.

I quite like the idea of getting one hard wired in, glad Halford can do it (and remove it again)

I'm very hopeful that this will be our car for a number of years (until it's at end of life!) so a more permanent solution is better.
