Hotel or self catering with a toddler??

Help me decide please.

We are looking to go away for a couple of nights in the uk for the first time with our 20 month old.

Would we be better in a hotel or self catering?! I can't decide what would be best?

By the way I do t plan on cooking at all although I would need to prepare sandwiches etc for my son.

Absolutely self-catering, and not necessarily for the catering! In a hotel, I assume you'd all be in one room, creeping about, trying to get the toddler to sleep etc etc. In self-catering, maybe a little cottage or similar, you'd have more space, a living room, could put the toddler to bed etc. You don't have to do any cooking, you could still eat out for every meal if you wish!

Self catering 100% - we had a few nights city break in a hotel with a toddler and it was a nightmare getting them to eat anything in the restaurants for breakfast/lunch/dinner and not easy to keep snacks/milk cool in the mini bar fridge

Self catering - more space less worry about disturbing others.

Great that does make sense! Thank you

Depends on the hotel. We have had some awesome hotel breaks with a toddler in tow. Some hotels offer a family suit with children’s sittings in the restaurant and then a babysitter for the adult sitting. The one we were most impressed with that offered this was Calcot Manor in Tetbury. They had a fab crèche too, and offered family swim sessions and also more babysitting if you wanted to go for a massage or treatment. Still fondly remember that weekend!

I spend all week doing housework, when I go away I want someone else to tidy my room and make my dinner. If I were self catering I would still go out for dinner, at a time and venue that suits my kids. My sister, otoh, wouldn’t dream of doing anything but self catering. It’s entirely a personal choice.
