Method/Approach for keeping house clean

Im sure I’ve read on here before that there is a website or an app that helps you keep on top of cleaning your houses it’s a one/two job each day type approach. DH and I both work full time in equally demanding jobs and have two kids so the house only ever gets a deep clean when we are expecting visitors or when I crack because I’m so fed up of it.

I could work this out myself but what I’m really looking for is a respected tool I can show DH that is nice and prescriptive and that can be seen to be “fair”

DH does a decent amount in the house and childcare, let’s say around 40% of the load. But he’s utterly convinced he does 60% so is resistant to doing more as that wouldn’t be fair on him.

He’s also resistant to getting a cleaner since our old one moved away. We should “see what more we can do”.... which had led me to this post

Getting him to do the jobs properly/thoroughly with the correct product/equipment is another thread for another day.

I learned a lot about the Flylady's approach years ago - doing 1 zone per week (so the whole house gets done every month) and keeping on top of hotspots of clutter, as well as the benefit of even doing 15 minutes regularly.

I also started, probably over 10 years ago now, doing a cleaning plan called the Holiday Grand Plan on Organised Christmas, which involved prepping for Christmas (including buying, wrapping, decorating and having some seasonal magic!!) and doing a thorough deep clean of the entire house over 14 weeks from the very end of August to the week before Christmas. December involved almost no actual deep cleaning - just maintenance cleaning.

I am rubbish at keeping to Flylady's zones, but am much better at doing a small job here and there when I have 10 minutes to keep the house clean. We always clean the kitchen after meals, and clean the bathroom regularly (I keep cleaning materials in each bathroom so it is only a 5 minute job when I am passing - no running down to get spray/bleach/cloths before I start and again at the end to put them away). I run the chordless vacuum over the floors downstairs most days, and upstairs at least weekly (more if needed).

But the Organized Home plan (the cleaning plan supporting the Holiday Grand Plan) may be what you are looking for on this site - it starts with "brush the ceilings, dust the pictures and walls and hoover the room to the skirting boards including under all furniture", and goes through each room individually.

Or the Flylady site (I can't access that on work pc but Google will find it for you)

Does a chordless vacuum hum tunelessly?

The organised mum method (Team TOMM)

Divide your house into zones and allocate zones of the number of days you are able to clean.

Thank you all. It was TOMM that I was trying to recall. I like the fact that it has half hour blocks so I can’t end up in a debate with DH about who does more!

We have been following TOMM since January and it has been a total game changer for us.

I should add that it is great for sharing the load as it is all broken down.

DH Mondays (his day off)
DH Tuesday (both working but my busy day)
I do Wednesdays (both working but his busy day)
We alternate Thursdays
I do Fridays (my day off)

the every day stuff (run hoover over busy areas, put laundry on etc. we just kind of share out with who has five minutes)

It has honestly stopped the house being a tip since March with us both WFH and the kids off March-August.

Thanks @BanditsBum, it’s really good to know that it’s working so well for you. Like you we are already splitting the everyday stuff fairly well.
