I'm watching the press conference on the news, they are skirting around something.
One fatality and several injured in different locations.
Confused

Anyone?

If they're still looking for a suspect then the police will be intentionally cagey in case they compromise the investigation.

CitizenFame · 06/09/2020 13:39

Someone said there were multiple cars trying to crash into people. I hope it was “just” gang related

pushananas · 06/09/2020 13:46

Somebody was drunk/on drugs and carrying a knife and couldn't control their behaviour?

MJMG2015 · 06/09/2020 13:51

I'm sorry to hear this. Whatever's happened exactly, it's been a dreadful night.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/09/2020 13:55

I was shocked and saddened when I heard this on the news this morning.

What a dreadful thing to happen.

DeliciouslyFemale · 06/09/2020 13:55

@MorrisZapp

After the hotel stabbings in Glasgow I'd be happy now for news outlets to sit on these stories until they have meaningful facts to report. The whole thing was hyped up on rolling news and theories were thrown about with abandon. Most proved completely groundless.
I agree. When you read the comments on here about what posters have read and heard, you can see why the police want to make sure they have all the facts first. With all the marches and discontent lately, we need to be aware of how runners can cause more problems.

I suppose a lot of bigots would make those assumptions. 🤷‍♀️

Pinkflipflop85 · 06/09/2020 14:26

It is very odd.

Meanwhile, 5 men were stabbed near our local high street last night and it's only got a mention on the local news.

pushananas · 06/09/2020 14:29

@Nandakanda

Many people will automatically make the assumption that this is a second attack on the gay community by some person(s) with extremist Islamic leanings in as many months.

Most attacks of this type come from that direction. It would be good if the police game actual details rather than patronising people with talk of "mental illness" etc.

I wouldn't be surprised it it were the case as it often seems to be but it'll be nothing to do with Islam but with extreme views which some people blame Islam for because of the colour of the person's skin.
Nikori · 06/09/2020 14:33

I read the article in the BBC where they interview a witness who said it was a mass brawl with loads of people involved, old and young. I’ll look for the link. It sounds crazy!

Nikori · 06/09/2020 14:35

Hmm, now I found an article that says it was one guy who went on a stabbing spree.

MotherGlasgow1 · 06/09/2020 14:38

The whole thing is extrememely odd. Someone has obviously gone right through twitter and other social media platforms to remove all video or mention of what's really happened and is ensuring nothing else gets posted - I happened to turn on BBC news when they first announced it, went to look on twitter and the only references to it were in other languages? I remember this happened after Manchester Arena also. Then it is particularly weird that that one girl witness was trotted out as the only person who saw anything? And the main channels obviously have journalists in the area - why were they not out at the edge of cordons etc, speaking to shopkeepers, witnesses etc? All very 'managed' and bizarre.

annabel85 · 06/09/2020 14:39

Not being funny but why weren't they social distancing? If people followed the rules then there'd be no scope for this kind of wanton violence.

Nandakanda · 06/09/2020 14:44

Utter gibberish.

Was that Bexley Heath?
Trailing1 · 06/09/2020 14:48

Local to us, seems to have happened where the bay quarter is so possible that it's a homophobic hate crime. This city has been decimated by violence in recent years. Very sad news.

annabel85 · 06/09/2020 14:50

What I find it a bit odd as well is it's been hyped up as the wild west and a warzone. However the police have stated:
A man has tragically died. Another man and a woman have suffered serious injuries and five others have also been injured, although their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
We believe the incidents, which took place between 12:30am and 2:20am, are linked and we’re doing all we can to find whoever was responsible.

Now of course that's bad, but these things can happen on Saturday night over the course of a night over a big city centre like Birmingham, without it leading the national news. A death, sadly, isn't that unusual (might lead the local news) and local A&E departments are usually well stocked with Saturday fights which can vary in seriousness.

There seems to be more to it than meets the eye.

Pinkflipflop85 · 06/09/2020 14:53

@EDSGFC yes, Bexleyheath

ShellsAndSunrises · 06/09/2020 14:57

Where is everyone getting their news from?

I’m about 45 minutes from Birmingham and the coverage locally has been quite clear. They believe it was one man who stabbed someone randomly at half midnight at Constitution Hill, and then moved south, attempting to stab people at four locations. The police have said they are confident there is no gang or terrorism links, and they don’t believe it was a hate crime...

The weirdest thing is the woman that everyone seems to be using as a witness, who said she heard gun shots, which has been directly contradicted by the police Confused

It’s horrendous but the response suggests that they have a good idea who they’re looking for. I hope they find them soon... but the sociologist in me thinks this thread is a great example of misinformation spreading. I should think nobody has had any malicious intent but there’s about 20 different theories, none of which appear backed up by much at all.

Dowser · 06/09/2020 14:57

Has there been any mention yet that piers Corbyn was arrested at a peaceful protest against lockdown in Sheffield yesterday and a man was jostled and died.
After working on him for a long time they eventually brought him back. He’s in hospital recovering

Just awful and I’ve seen nothing in the press

annabel85 · 06/09/2020 14:59

Tbh if it was London rather than Birmingham it probably wouldn't make the headlines, as people are desensitised to all the violent crime.

FlamedToACrisp · 06/09/2020 15:00

Not being funny, but if they don't care about the "it's not OK to stab people" laws, they probably don't care about social distancing rules either.
theworldhasfallenoutmybottom · 06/09/2020 15:00

It's just strange how in London someone goes on a stabbing rampage and is shot dead within minutes yet here it seems like the suspect wandered leisurely through town stabbing 7 others over a two hour period
