He has a cold which is always accompanied by a cough. Does this mean he cannot go to school tomorrow?

Can I ask why its not the best option?. Its free, you do it yourself and you then know?

My dd had one, again very mild and 119 said test. This is the only way we can stop covid? Dc can get it very mildy. What if you don't get him tested, send him to school, possibly infected, and then tomorrow, it hits him hard, you have to collect him and people in his class, his teacher etc all on tender hooks waiting for his test results, sparking off a massive chain reaction!

Get him tested.

Penny Lane, pretty much, yes.

This is exactly why we are supposed... To have crack hot testing system!

To do exactly that, to test test, test.
And stop community transmission.
It's a pain but this is exactly what we need to do to stop transmission.

Yep. Ds was due to start year 4 last Tuesday. Cough and runny nose started Sunday night. Phoned school on the Monday and they said he'd be put into isolation if he came in. Tested tuesday, result Wednesday. Back to school on Thursday.

Dp had to come and get me from work and we had to isolate until results.

Covid shares it symptoms with probably 1001 other common viral infections so spotting the differences between those shared symptoms is key

I’m sorry but trained medical professionals aren’t going to be telling people with persistent coughs it’s just a cold so not to get tested. The fact that covid shares symptoms with other common illnesses means we need a super effective testing system, not for people to be trying to self diagnose why they’ve got a new persistent cough.

My two DDs have had high temps and a snotty full blown cold since yesterday. DD1 was very unwell through the night. They’ve had several coughing fits but it sounds wet - so not like the dry Covid cough described. What I am supposed to do if not test? Keep them off for two weeks just in case - not realistic. Send them to school where they either have a high temp or cough, and get sent home for testing anyway. It’s not as cut and dry as could just be a cold.

Testing is the responsible thing to do and it’s not our fault if the testing system falls over. We’ve been told repeatedly since lockdown eased to test immediately. We live in London and since yesterday when I have been trying, there have been no home tests available and no drive through centres Or walk through centres open. Eventually we got an appointment at Gatwick.

Fever is one of the symptoms.

So yes. Test.

I'm dreading this winter. DS always seems to get a cough which goes on for weeks and just as I think he's better it starts up again.

I fear we'll be spending more time getting covid tests than at school... still the school inform me that they have "robust plans in place for online distance learning" so hopefully he'll be able to keep up as long as I can work endlessly from home / give up my job

sensiblesometimes · 06/09/2020 19:27

if your are poorly ( in doubt ( get a test !

test test test , it's the only way out of this

not rocket science 🤷🏻‍♂️

PurpleDaisies · 06/09/2020 19:29

cotton he’ll only need to be tested at the start of it to prove it’s not a covid cough and then it won’t be a new cough for as long as it lasts.

Drive through tests (if you can get one!) often come back very quickly.
