@branleuse

That Walton -Naze house almost deserves a thread on its own - Dalek, Sphinx, spinning wheel, boy george posters, ballet picture.etc. Who lived there?!

That Whitby one is stunning and really spacious for the price

Oh, lucky you! I'm looking at a moving date of end October/beginning of November, I think, and I'm so looking forward to it. My dog is going to love being just across the road from the beach too.

Lardlizard · 06/09/2020 22:03

Where is sand gate

@Lardlizard

Where is sand gate
It's a couple of miles to the west of Folkestone, right on the beach.
AppleStars · 06/09/2020 22:54

On reflection I think I'd go the middle one purely for this window/view:

But Lowestoft is a dump!
JM10 · 08/09/2020 21:16

Right, you've inspired me. I'm off to have a search. Some of these are amazing!

Lardlizard · 10/09/2020 19:46

Lowestoft isn’t a dump !! 😵

@Animum2 my sister has a lovely penthouse flat right near there! It's a great place to live.
But she wants to sell it & buy a house with a garden, so probably would have to move further inland as actual houses are stupidly expensive there...

Go live there then, knock yourself out!

I think it's a ghastly place. Very depressed, very low employment, high crime, economically very difficult. Hmmm.....maybe this explains the "bargain" house.

If you've only ever been there as part of a holiday then you won't really have seen what the town is like.

Branleuse · 11/09/2020 19:01

Lowestoft is no different to most british seaside towns in terms of deprivation, but with advancements in remote working and more people wanting uk holidays, it might be a good time to get bargains in areas like that. Also even deprived areas have nice bits

Indeed, loads of the places mentioned in this thread are pretty unpleasant. OK for a holiday where you don't see or experience the problems. But not so great to live in.

The naice UK seaside towns are incredibly expensive. Southwold, for example.

I think the opposite about getting a bargain. I think more people home working and more people wanting UK holidays will push prices up, not create more bargains.

Nowhere in Shetland is more than 3miles from the sea and lots have fast broadband

It depends what you want though. If you have school age kids youll need to consider if its an overwhelmingly deprived school and whether your kids would be ok with that, or whether its driving distance to a good school. Most areas have good parts and bad parts though and id be more than happy to live in Walton or parts of Harwich.
Writing off entire areas is a self perpetuating problem
