DC had macaroni for lunch. On the side of the packet it says "perfect for sweet and savoury dishes".

What kind of nonsense is this? What sweet things could you possibly make with pasta??

Lokshen kugel is a Jewish pasta bake that can be made sweet and served as a pudding

I’ve had a sugary nutty vermicelli thing before. You could probably use spaghetti at a push but not sure about macaroni.

I found this. Like rice pudding but with macaroni instead. Give it go and let us know what it’s like Grin

We make a steamed vermicelli dish with sugar, cinnamon and almonds or walnuts. I suppose at a push you could in theory do this with macaroni or another type of pasta. Equally we make a sweet rice by pouring sugar syrup over boiled rice with coconut and raisins.

I was going to say Kugel also. (Jewish grandma- she adored it. me not so much).

But, if you know the Polish pierogis... they can be savoury with mashed potato, mushroo,ms or mince but also sweet stuffed with fruit compote.

I can only think of the traditional German "Milchnudeln" (milk noodles) which is any shape of pasta cooked slowly in milk that has been sweetened with sugar and spiced with cinnamon.
Kind of like a rice pudding... it can also be served topped with cinnamon-sugar and/or any fruit compote.

Not made with macaroni, but with pasta

When I was a child in the 70s my mum used to make like a rice pudding with macaroni

My gran used to make macaroni pudding. It's like rice pudding but with macaroni - the sauce was not thick though but milky and sweet. It was alright!
