Fungal Nail Infection - Sorry

Has anyone successfully got rid of this at home with products bought over the counter?

I've been trying for about two years and it gets smaller and then starts taking over the nail again.

My feet are not very glamorous.

I have just started using Emtrix after several years of using Vicks, which kept it at bay only. The reviews are good but I can't comment yet!

You need to get GP to prescribe you terbinafine tablets.

Had really bad fungal nails which spread to all toes on both feet. Tried loads of different quack remedies (Vicks, Vinegar, bleach, laser) and the paint on fungal nail stuff. Nothing worked. Went to see GP and was prescribed the antifungal drug terbinafine for 9 months till nails were clear. Chucked out old shoes, slippers and socks to ensure I didn't get infected again. My toenails are still clear over a year later. I'm much happier and don't have to spend hours soaking and filing down the nails.

How bad are the nails and how many are infected?

this stuff got rid of it for me, used it a couple of times a day, kept the nail short and buffed it once a week

I have used the canesten urea softening pack, followed by Scholl fungal nail treatment. You have to keep it up for months until all that nail has grown out. Mine is almost gone and I intend to carry on with the Scholl stuff once a week for about another 6 months. I am sure I read 9 months treatment in total to stop it coming back.

I tried tablets, lotions and everything. It was only on two toes and didn't spread. I then found out it was psoriasis in my nails. I am using a file to file the front of the nail down and a lotion from amazon called imperial feet and it is finally improving.

I have the same problem OP. So embarrassing when I wore trainers most of the summer! I tried a lot and went to the gp for terbafine but haven't taken it as I am worried about the side effects on the liver? They did a blood test prior to giving me it but this was months ago. I don't drink alcohol now though. But that was the only thing the gp said would work...

Thanks. I'm not the only one then.

It is only on one nail - my big toe.

I started after taking up swimming. I'd still have good nails if I had sat at home and watched a box set!

A few years ago I went to buy an over the counter treatment for my big toe and the pharmacist advised me to file the front of the nail and douse it in tea tree oil each day. I was a bit Hmm but it worked brilliantly. My nail had been pretty yuck too and I would never wear open toe sandals. Even though my nail is fine now I still use tea tree (on all my nails) every couple of weeks - I’m pretty sure it helps keep them healthy and it’s certainly not going to do any harm!
