Replacing wood burning stove

We have a wood burning stove that needs replacing. It's currently a big one which is fully embedded in the chimney breast. We'd prefer one which stands out so it has more exposed sides yo actually heat the room (!). But a bit concerned that the chimney breast is a structural thing maybe...? I'm not sure where to start, does anyone have experience? I'm thinking maybe a builder not a stove fitter, but really no idea!

The stove won't be structural, and there should be gap around it to allow for expansion. You do need a HETAS qualified person to install your new stove, so I suggest you look around for one & get their advice - your chimney sweep should know, or maybe one anyway.

We did this recently. I went to a recommended stove fitter / dealer and ultimately he called in a builder to double check. The builder charge was included in the overall cost.
It has made such a distance to the look and feel of the room. Maybe just talk to a couple of stove fitters to get a feel for which you trust ?

Thanks both, good idea about talking to our sweep - we need to book him in anyway so could get some advice.

I guess I'm wondering if they will need to break out a bigger hole potentially- hence the structural concerns. I would hope the stove itself isn't propping up the house Smile

We had ours fitted by a company specialising in stoves (lots around). They did the whole thing... sorted out the depth of the chimney breast and the 'hole'. I love it.

@notregistered do you mind saying who you used (if in East Anglia or if they are national), or otherwise how you found a decent company?

I have massive fear over "big" house jobs in case the company we pick screws it up!

The company was in Kenilworth in the midlands I'm afraid. To be honest it wasn't a massive job.. they did it in 2 days. So long as they're registered I think you'll be fine, but I'd also look for fb reviews etc.
Your sweep would be a good person to ask, and maybe your wood supplier?

Just be aware that you will still need a minimum depth of hearth in front of the stove to be legal
