Keeping leftover takeaway

Just had a delicious Indian takeaway but we have loads left and it was expensive so I’m not keen to just throw in food bin. Have kept half of one curry in fridge for reheating for lunch but we have half a nann and an almost full tub of yummy sauce left. Can I keep those? If so how long and how to store and reheat? Tia

Pipandmum · 04/09/2020 21:29

Yes always have some next day.

AntiHop · 04/09/2020 21:29

Why would you throw it out? Do you never have take-aways? We store any leftovers in the fridge and they eaten then next day. Its never lasted any longer than the following day, but I'd assume it would keep fine in the fridge for 3 days.

PurpleDaisies · 04/09/2020 21:30

I’d keep them for a few days in the fridge.
Love leftovers.

CatBatCat · 04/09/2020 21:33

Takeaways is always 2 meals per person

kimTimFin · 04/09/2020 21:33

No we don’t have them often or when we do we usually finish everything. So even the nann? I just store in the fridge and how would I heat up oven?

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 04/09/2020 21:34

Just stick the naan in the oven for a few minutes.

kimTimFin · 04/09/2020 21:35

Brilliant. Thank you all so much - we weren’t sure on whether we’d poison ourselves so useful to know we won’t Grin

I sprinkle naan with water and wrap in foil before reheating in the oven. Everything else gets nuked in the microwave.

LadyofTheManners · 04/09/2020 21:36

Oh yes so save it
When I order chicken chow mein from my local Chinese take away, it's huge, far too much for me to eat, so I take what I want, then divide the rest into two freezer containers and they go in the freezer. It's like having a take away without having to pay again. Although, chicken dumplings never make it to the freezer, I've been known to pinch one out the fridge for breakfast when hungover to death the next day.

AriettyHomily · 04/09/2020 21:36

Always keep and quite partial to it for breakfast!

chunkyrun · 04/09/2020 21:36

Yes it's so much better next day!

minnieok · 04/09/2020 21:37

Yes, refrigerate and eat within 48 hours

HoratiotheHorsefly · 04/09/2020 21:38

That'd be going in my lunchbox tomorrow and heated up in the microwave Grin

anon5000 · 04/09/2020 21:41

How can you not know this?

Elouera · 05/09/2020 07:13

'we weren’t sure on whether we’d poison ourselves'

Is this for real??? Do you think the food suddenly turns to poison at midnight or if its kept more than an hour??? Do you store any left over home cooked food in the fridge, or do you believe that it also turns to poison??? Confused

ImAncient · 05/09/2020 07:19

Whenever we ordered Chinese we always order extra duck & noodles to eat over the coming week. Usually last a day, instead of the week.

I'm actually quite interested in why you thought you might poison yourself - were you planning to store it out of the fridge or something - if so don't do that! Any cooked takeaway will be fine for a couple of days in the fridge and then heated up!
BiddyPop · 05/09/2020 07:28

I sometimes fridge it for next day, or freeze it for a different day entirely.

CherryValanc · 05/09/2020 07:28

It's just food, do treat it as you would leftovers from any meal. Put it in a covered container and refrigerate it.

What might be playing at the back of your mind about takeaways is leftover rice. Rice can be dodgy. Always make sure leftover rice is not left storedd at room temperature for that long. Refrigerate it and heat it up so it hot throughout.

kimTimFin · 05/09/2020 10:35

Thank you to those who provided advice. I am looking forward to my lunch today put it that way Wink

For those trying to make me feel stupid for asking...well I was always told there is never any harm in asking a question. Except on MN apparently Hmm I wanted to know that others did this especially for things like a tub of sauce and nann bread. I keep left over food often but I know how it’s been cooked and how many times it’s been already been frozen/reheated etc. A takeaway is more unknown in that regard. It felt lovely and fresh but we reheated before we ate as it had gone cold. So that’s once reheated. Then the sauce was quite buttery/cream/ghee whatever combo so wanted to see if safe to keep or freeze. Again thanks for those thanks answered my question.

Chinese takeaway freezes well (just not sweet and sour).

CrunchyNutNC · 05/09/2020 10:39

YY to freezing! I routinely freeze the leftovers because I find that what is a 'leftover' eaten the day after the takeaway transforms into something truly magical when defrosted and eaten in the week before payday!

kimTimFin · 05/09/2020 10:44

Ohh I could see that being true for this house too @CrunchyNutNC Grin

I’ve put the sauce in feeezer now was there is so much it would make a whole new curry with left over chicken one day.
