Anyone else never really feel like going on holiday.
never fails to amaze me how people spend £10k on a luxury holiday - all that money on 2 weeks that is so soon over.
Antiques roadshow this woman sold a beautiful painting for loads then said she was going to sell it to go on a poxy cruise!!
Two days into a holiday and I want to come home, I hate them.
I can cope with a week camping somewhere but a three week cruise or tropical island no thanks.
My thoughts may be coloured by the fact my parents travelled all over the world with us and we were never in school or our own home for more than 6 months.
Now I love my home and cannot imagine queuing at airports, being shoved onto buses or sitting on an over crowded beach.
I suppose it helps living in the west country in a lovely spot but annual holidays - no thanks.

I just hate it when people show off how they've "travelled" but they're always talking about Australia and Thailand, or Goa. Funnily enough these "travellers" all seem to go to the same places. For some reason this "travelling" is only valid if it's hot weather. If it's a Scottish island they give you a blank stare and ask why on Earth you'd want to go there. So bored of these people.

Holidays with young children are hard work. Sleep patterns go out the window. Someone always gets ill. The beds are never as good as your own. Someone is always unhappy about where or what they’re eating. Sun cream application X a million and the moaning about it. The packing, the washing. Yep basically I’m not a fan, but I forget and then want to do it all again!

I love holidays and travelling. I took a year out pre uni. I've liked every single holiday I've ever been on. My favourite holidays are 3 or 4 day, long weekends with the girls to krakow, Dubrovnik, Riga. I love the whole thing, driving to the airport, airport, aeroplane, eating at restaurants we've booked. Fab.

I don't really like holidays. I like being away but find the planning and travel stressful and unpleasant.

I wouldn't spend my money on "two weeks in the sun" but the kind of trips where you see beautiful architecture, experience nature, be active, eat different foods - that'll never be money wasted.

Who wouldn't want the experiences and the memories? Rather that than spending money on "stuff". What pleasure do you really get from looking at the same painting day and night? Buy a print and enjoy the cash, I say!

Love my holidays, have had three cancelled this year Sad

I know the appeal to lots of people but you wouldn't get me on a cruise even if you paid me. The thought of being stuck on a boat with people you may not want to be stuck with makes me shudder. That and the fact that I wouldn't be in control of when I was going and when, no thanks. My two SILs and their husbands love them because they have everything planned and don't have to have their own ideas...

I have had a few weekend staycations so far, been enjoyable but not what I want.

I hope that one everything gets back to normal I can have my usual treats.

@Biscuitsdisappear

"I have a theory that people only like them for that last day of feeling of going home - where they can relax and not worry about losing their stuff" Really? Just WOW!

I know - that was my response? Who spends their holiday worrying about losing things??

Ooh no, I love a holiday. The longer and more exotic the better!

We haven't been away for a couple of years - we got a puppy and didn't want to leave him, then this summer we were planning to go abroad but COVID put a halt to that. We're both self-employed so couldn't take any risks re. quarantine.

I can't wait until we can go again!

I love holidays and money no object would take a world cruise. I didn't have the luxury of parents who took me travelling. We've booked for next year, though will travel by ferry and motorbike rather than plane

I live for holidays!

The only time we spent over 10k on a "holiday" was when we went backpacking for 3 months!!

I can't stand the idea of lazing about in a hotel and doing nothing though.

Stick some clothes in your backpack, get a rough idea of where you're heading and wing it!

God I love holidays. I do get a bit stressy planning then and packing, but that's because I'm doing 95% of the work. But as soon as I lock the door and we're off, I melt.

I wouldn't fancy a cruise or sitting on a beach holiday, but I love going to other countries, I adore hot sunshine and a cool pool, strolling round amazing towns and cities, castles, palaces, museums, even going to the supermarket abroad (drove to France this summer, loved spending time choosing stuff to bring home - cheese, wine, mustard, and random stuff too). We've had several holidays cancelled in 2020, but I've got loads planned still. Not sure how many of them will still be going ahead, but I hate not having something in the pipeline - Croatia in October, Spain in February, Greece at Easter, and hopefully USA and France next summer 😁.

Had a bit of time off at home, and we just end up doing loads of jobs...

I'm all about long weekends away which I do a lot of as I don't work Fridays.

Long expensive trips abroad just seem like a load of hassle and expense to me.

With regular weekends away you get a change of scene, see something nice, do something different, but none of the time and money.

'Now I love my home and cannot imagine queuing at airports, being shoved onto buses or sitting on an over crowded beach.'

People pay the 10k etc if they can afford it, to minimise the airport stress (not easyJet etc) and have less crowds when they get there.

I’d much rather spend money on holidays and travel than pointless possessions. I’d find it so boring to just stay at home. I love visiting new countries & one of the main reasons I work is to pay for holidays.

I love my family, home and work but have had a stressful time lately and I've nearly been in tears this afternoon trying to cook and clean. It's just never ending.

I love a luxury holiday but our last one was t a great success as had a toddler in the heat and all shiny surfaces plus exposed beach.

Next time better shady / grassy areas.

I love holidays. My dc are in their 20s now and we have spent every spare penny in taking them all over the world. Listening to them reminisce about what brilliant trips we've had makes me cry with joy. The trade off has been that we didn't move when we could have done and we haven't had enough space when the dc were growing up, and our small house is very shabby and now needs a lot spending on it which we can't afford but I have no regrets. I think the joy that travel brings is unrivalled.

I think it depends where you live. I find Brits are obsessed with traveling because our weather is so shit. If U.K. had a tropical climate and Caribbean beaches hardly any One would leave. I used to love holidays when I lived there but once I moved to a hot climate with pools and beaches I rarely travel as everything I want is on my doorstep.

I love holidays more than nearly anything else in the world. Cities, beaches, shot trips, long haul doesn’t matter, love them all. I don’t like camping though. Forget that

Do you not get bored at home? I love holidays. Anything really!! I used to hate a more traditional pool / beach holiday but now we have the kids they just love it so we are happy too!

Camping is not my favourite but I still enjoy it. I find it a bit uncomfortable and a lot of faf. But still love being away.

Same. I think it’s really sad when people find 50 weeks of the year horrible and only have 2 nice weeks to look forward to. That’s like 96% of your life working to enjoy 4% of it.

Agree with this. My priority is to make my 'usual' life as enjoyable as possible rather than enduring 50 weeks to enjoy 2. I'm lucky though, as a pp pointed out, that's much easier because I live in a beautiful part of the country and have open countryside on my doorstep.

Different strokes etc.

I like holidays but yanbu if you don't, each to their own. I found them a bit more trouble than they were worth when I was younger, but they've grown on me. Also the whole smart phone thing makes travelling so easy. You can around pretty much as easily as you can at home in all but the most far flung places.
