Lying to car insurance company

Grandadwasthatyou · 03/09/2020 22:58

My ex dh has told me he is buying a new car and he has told the insurance company he has full no claims. This is not true. I was the policy holder when we were together and he was a named driver.
When we split up I bought a new car and had to prove to the new insurers that I had the 9 years ncd which I had put on my form.
He reckons they won't check and will just take it for granted that he has the maximum ncd which he has put on his form and therefore he will get a much cheaper premium.
Is this right? In which case why did I have to prove it?

Well he has just texted that's me insured and policy documents emailed through!
I looked back at my policy which I took out a few months ago and I got everything through before they then emailed me a few days later asking for proof of NCD. So we shall see.

Yea they will check.
I recently changed my car insurance and thought I had 5 years no claims. They actually emailed me 3 days later to say that I made a mistake and I actually have 7 years no claims.

I'm inclined to agree with @Lonecatwithkitten
Why are you even having these 'chats' with him ?

If he is telling you about fraudulent transactions, surely you'd be better not having any knowledge of what he's up to.

He just sends me texts!

I've started changing my car insurance every year and for the past two times I haven't being asked for proof, wether there's another way they check o don't know. I wouldn't lie to them though as wouldn't i think it could invalidate the insurance.

I agree they might still get in touch for proof even if he has the documents. In the past I've taken out insurance and had it all confirmed and then had them contact me for further information. I've also had to show proof of NCD every time for several years.

@Grandadwasthatyou grey rock, ignore the texts he is just trying to get you to engage with him.
Be glad you are rid of the idiot and any mistakes he makes are nothing to do with you.

Grandadwasthatyou · 04/09/2020 21:45

I think he's wanting to prove to me that I'm wrong hence the " told you I would get away with it " texts!

As other users have said if Insurers can check online they will do if not they will ask you for proof

I switched insurers and was asked to mail my NCD. All policy documents were sent, first months payment taken everything. I was ready to go

I somehow managed to email NCD to wrong address. Couple of weeks later I got mail saying I had 10 days to send NCD or they would attempt to take additional, substantial, premium from my account and if that failed they would cancel policy

There’s no way an insurer would take anyone’s word for it where there was cash involved

Grandadwasthatyou

Hopefully they’ll check & you’re proved right.
