Does anyone use Headspace for sleep?

It’s an absolute revelation to me!! I’ve often struggled to get to sleep as my mind races etc. I’ve started using the ‘Sleepcasts’ on the Headspace app and they are AMAZING!

I don’t think I could tell you much of what happens after about the first 5 minutes of each one (they are 45 mins long) as I always end up nodding off not long after the breathing exercise at the beginning! I don’t know how they do it but it’s magical.

The sleep SOS tracks are good as well - 10 minutes for getting back to sleep in the middle of the night etc.

I use a sleep cast every night now!

Does anyone else and if so, which is your fave? If you don’t, I really recommend if you struggle to switch off Smile

There is a great podcast interview with the guys who started it. Andy, who came up with the idea, has been on quite a journey (including giving everything up and becoming a Buddhist monk). It's definitely worth a listen!

Yep, use it most nights. Loch Dormant is my favourite with sexy male Scottish voice Grin

I don't use headspace but I've been watching ASMR channels on YouTube for years now.

If I'm really struggling to sleep then I prefer Radio 4 programmes as I need something sufficiently interesting to combat my racing thoughts. In Our Time, Only Artists and In The Psychiatrist's Chair are my favourites.

Yes! I used to use headspace for anxiety but have been feeling ok lately and not needed to use it, however was struggling to sleep due to bad from back problems and the sleepcasts are brilliant and give me something nice to focus on and helps me drift off to sleep. I don’t know who does the voice for rain day antiques, Sandy cove and slow train but I just love his voice he sounds like David Attenborough, it’s so relaxing to listen to

Minai · 04/09/2020 10:26

Also can only listen to the male voices! What is that about?!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 04/09/2020 10:40

I use Calm. Think I've only listened to a full story three times (in over a year). One of those was an explanation of cricket, which was so blinking interesting I refused to sleep until I'd heard it all! (And no, I generally have no interest in the sport whatsoever! Grin)

I love headspace, can only listen to the male voice that does the sleep casts where you relax your body or unwind from the day, they're only 10ish minutes long I think but I'm always asleep by the end! I love the soundscapes too rain on canvas is a favourite.
I keep meaning to start the headspace on sleep series but I never seem to find the time (always time for Mumsnet though Grin).

I've got Calm and Headspace apps. It seems you have to subscribe to use most of it, although some parts appear free of charge. Is subscription worth it?

Runningdownthathill · 16/10/2020 17:26

Most of the content seems to be subscription only though. I have listened to a couple of free ones which were great, and I'm thinking of subscribing.

Runningdownthathill · 16/10/2020 17:27

Sorry @3catsandcounting I just saw your post after I posted!

Runningdownthathill · 16/10/2020 17:29

Which is better, Headspace or Calm?

Dustballs · 16/10/2020 21:54

I use headspace for the kids. We can’t listen to the female voices either. They’re creepy.

CurbsideProphet · 16/10/2020 22:09

I pay for the Headspace yearly subscription and do a daily meditation. I find Andy's voice soothing, plus the man who does the slow train sleep cast. Some of the women sound like they have been translated and it's computer generated. Probably not, but it just sounds like that to me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/10/2020 22:13

I need to try these, so placemarking.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 16/10/2020 22:14

I used to listen to Stephen fry reading harry potter on audible. But then my ex cancelled the subscription I was using and I'm too tight to pay for it myself Grin

I've used calm a few times, Stephen fry again talking about lavender fields.

I downloaded headspace months ago, but couldn't work out which was better between that and calm so haven't really done any thing with it. Confused

Does anyone have an opinion on which is better? I have depression, general anxiety and insomnia.

Runningdownthathill · 16/10/2020 22:15

I don’t like the female voices either on Headspace!

Runningdownthathill · 16/10/2020 22:16

There’s a sleep story on Headspace about an antique shop which I love. I’ve used it several times and it sends me to sleep every time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/10/2020 10:31

During an especially stressful time I used Michael Palin reading 'around the world in 80 days' to help me get to sleep. Good job Ive read the book and seen the series else I'd have no clue where he went.
