Any joiners or woodworkers here?

This is my children’s bunk bed- just over a year old- it’s apparently solid wood frame. Can anyone tell me why it would break like this? Never seen anything like it and am not happy with argos’ response.
Thanks

The zig zag part is a finger joint, it's where two pieces of wood have been joined together to make one piece. Both ends are cut and knocked together. You can see one at top left, a larger one in the middle. The fact that it's failed at the joints would suggest that they have weakened the structure. I would press for it being a manufacturing fault.

It is repairable, it needs wood glue in all the gaps and some clamps until it's dried but that's getting away from the fact that the joins have weakened it.

The fact it has the join doesn't mean it isn't a solid wood frame though. Solid wood doesn't imply one piece of wood.

Has it been bounced/ jumped on? This could cause it to fail at the joint.

The joint relies on glue, if it's not been properly glued then it will be weaker than designed.
