Can the police place someone on a section 136

If they don’t know their name? Ds1 has always ended up on a section 136 after being reported missing. Just wondering how it works for someone found to be distressed in public but they won’t tell the police their name.

Yes they can.

Yes you can. I hope you are OK OP.

Yes, if you’re not at home and they think you need care or control and are suffering from mental illness.

I’m fine I was just wondering how it worked as I would hope people could still get support even if they weren’t willing to give their name. Though I would imagine arranging an assessment would be difficult without the persons name.

I suspect it’s very common op if someone needs to be detained under section 136 that they may not be willing or able to give their name. That doesn’t mean a doctor cannot assess them and care or control cannot be provided.

I guess they could be assessed but the doctor wouldn’t have any history or what if they needed to section them further than the 136? Or refer to crisis team?

Yes they can.

I used to work in a 136 suite, once the person is detained the nurses usually manage to get some details from them, a cup of tea and a fag usually helps. Hope you're ok

how do assessments work if the person won’t give their name?
