Hi mum's, I'm interested to know what kind of jobs those who have night shift work do? I'm looking for a change of job and my next door neighbour has very kindly offered to night nanny my little girl as she is a nanny but only part time at present. She's considerably cheaper than what I'm paying for nursery.. Just wondered what your jobs were :) thanks

Registered Nurse. Could you look into care work/HCA?

QueenOfPain · 03/09/2020 14:53

Another nurse here.

Where I work we have overnight nurses, HCA’s, shift leaders, drivers and call handlers.

QueenOfPain · 03/09/2020 14:54

*oh and GP’s but I don’t think you’re going to manage to secure a job as GP without a bit of training Grin

Not me, but some call centres are 24 hour, also NHS workers, care home workers, some retail people, people who work in distribution centres, AA/RAC - that type of people, the police, some factory workers, customs officers, hotel staff, IT support staff, road maintenance people, bank contact centres - is that enough options?

Nursery Nurse. Worked nights when I worked on a neonatal ward, on the complex care team looking after children with complex care needs in their homes so mum/dad/carer could sleep and when I worked in a children's hospice. What will you do with your little one on the days you are working? Don't underestimate the pure exhaustion from working nights.

Hca at hospital our shifts are 12.5 hours so only have to do a couple a week

Bargebill19 · 03/09/2020 14:58

Warehousing. Food production. Care staff, anything in a hospital. Parcel sorting and Royal Mail. Supermarket staff.

Evilwasps · 03/09/2020 14:59

I work at an airport, most airport jobs involve shifts. Great industry to work in normally, but obviously not right now

HeyBlaby · 03/09/2020 15:00

District nurse, lots of night work in healthcare for health care assistants though.

thatplaceinjordan · 03/09/2020 15:00

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/09/2020 15:03

I used to work in the control room of a water company.

bluebluezoo · 03/09/2020 15:05

Who will take care of your child in the day? You will need to sleep.

Juanmorebeer · 03/09/2020 15:05

You can earn a decent rate in food production on permanent nights and also in warehousing Amazon/DHL etc.

Where will your little girl be in the day? Because you won't just have to pay for the night care you'll need to then come home and sleep as well so you'll still end up needing a full day care.

Mummybiscuitx · 03/09/2020 15:10

Sorry yes I wasn't clear. She said she could have her in the day as well during the time I would sleep. I think she's going to be let go from the family she is a nanny for because the mum wants to play a more active role in their upbringing. To be honest I was actually thinking care worker job, there's something I find extremely rewarding from it and I cared for my terminally ill mother for five years and know what skills would be required from that type of job.. Plus it would be a good route to have towards nursing or health care professionals.. Do you think its worth waiting till Covid isn't at pandemic stage.. I know there's a high demand generally for care worker jobs.
