I am keen to go and investigate some streets that have had reports of time travel....
Never been but it's on my To Do list.

LordEmsworth · 02/09/2020 21:11

When I am in Liverpool, I always make a beeline for Mowgli for lunch. Which is in fact on Bold Street, of the timeslips...

Main shopping area is in/around Liverpool One, which you cannot miss. The cathedrals are about 20 mins walk away, both are amazing in their own ways - I prefer the Metropolitan (Catholic) but the Anglican one is also very much worth a visit. If the weather is nice (it's meant to be ok) then wandering down by the old docks and the Three Graces. Museum of Liverpool is very good. I believe the ferry is still running.

Unfortunately some of my favourite things to do in Liverpool are guided tours, which aren't running at the minute. (The Mersey Tunnel Tour is amazing...).

Sorry - I mean, it is impossible to miss Liverpool One. You can certainly give it a miss but you will definitely see it, and signs for it, anywhere near the centre Grin

Casa Italia for gorgeous, traditional Italian.

Cheesypea · 02/09/2020 21:17

I'd go to the Tate gallery and have a walk along the mersey.

Lunch at the Philharmonic Dining rooms (known locally as 'The Phil'). There are only twelve 'Grade 1' listed pubs in the UK. 'The Phil' is one of them. Amazingly ornate Victorian, tiled, glass, and polished wood interiors. The gents wc. especially so - and tradition is that ladies on there first visit, pop in to have a look (ask a gent to mind the door for you)

John Lennon famously said that the worst thing about being famous was 'not being able to have a pint in 'The Phil'. It's about ten minutes from the centre, or just pop in a cab, and ask for 'The Phil'.

Best view of the city is from the top of the Anglican Cathedral tower ( a mix of stairs and lift to get to the top).

The Pen Factory is nice for lunch and very close to the university.

Thank you all 😊

Liverpool one is the main shopping area but I would also walk along Church Street up to Bold Street which is full of independent shops, restaurants and cafes. Right at the top of Bold Street is the local landmark the 'bombed out church'. From there you can easily get to Chinatown, see the archway. It's also close to the Anglican cathedral.
Otherwise you could walk from Liverpool one towards the Albert Dock, Museums and the waterfront.
The city centre is relatively small and you can see loads in quite a short time.

Sparkletastic · 02/09/2020 22:06

Definitely Mowgli for lunch.

Livpool · 02/09/2020 22:12

The city centre is pretty compact but echo PPs for shopping at Liverpool One.

The museums are free so suggest World Museum, Museum of Liverpool, Maritime Museum and Walker Art Gallery.

A drink in the Phil is obligatory

I don't rate casa Italian, but like Italian you make at home. La Finca Evisa is a gorgeous tapas, Ibiza vibes, really chilled and good is beautiful. Also villa Romana is lovely too.

WithIcePlease · 03/09/2020 00:01

This is great
It's just so helpful knowing where to go rather than just zooming in on maps
I've booked Mowgli for lunch and plan a vino at the Phil too

I would go to the World Museum, Mathew Street / Cavern Club, and the Albert Dock. I went to Liverpool University - loooong time ago!

nancybotwinbloom · 03/09/2020 12:13

St James street rooftop bar is nice. It's where they signed all the paperwork for the Titanic.

WithIcePlease · 03/09/2020 12:46

Currently enjoying Mowgli lunch then off to docks so we can pop in there for refreshments later. Thank you. Views look fab 😊

Did you have a nice day op?

WithIcePlease · 03/09/2020 22:02

Nancy I had a lovely day thank you 😊
I had been for a day 22 years when I was pregnant but not impressed. I can't recall where we went.
Went with DD to see if she would like it for university. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The folks were nice, the city had lots of lovely buildings, very warm feeling to it. City was easily navigable with the prominent landmarks. We went to the docks, the Liver building, the cathedrals, the various shopping areas and markets and the university. Bold street was lovely (went to Mowgli) with lots of interesting shops and restaurants. I could see DD being happy there.
The rooftop bar was closed sadly but found a road nearby with cafes and bars for an afternoon vino outside which was very nice
Really pleased that I went
