Sen child, year 3, sat at back or front of class.

Ages ago a tutor we saw for short time said dd should be sat as far front as possible. She felt dd was really watching lips for sounds. Had issues copying off the board etc.
Dd is in bottom groups and is struggling, we don't know why.
Before I blow my jets, is there any reason or benefit why she would be sat at the back of the class?
I was told there would be a comprehensive handover of dc especially sen register dc. I'm surprised, she's been sat right at the very back row?

Is there any rhyme or reason to this?

Also I know it's the first day, but when the other dc were reading books, mine wasn't and apparently no one came up to her to suggest something....

Domina good luck.

We've worked so hard over lock down with no help or support from the school at all. I've dragged her up to a certain level. We've slogged through over 70 school books I paid for via the reading chest and she's gone up 2 nealry 3 reading levels.

There are still some gaps, but in a year 2 SATS book I purchased she can now answer many grammar questions. She had zero knowledge of any grammar in March.

I don't want all this hard work to go to waste because of a shit show slop of a school. I really don't want all her hard work to simply go up in smoke. I don't expect special treatment. I do expect those dc at the very bottom rung of attainment in a large class esp those on the sen register to get '' some 'additional care and attention.

To start the new term right at the back...

Domina, it's our head who is a massive problem. Massive. I've agonised over whether to move her.

I don't know what to do. I've read moving a child at this age can result in 5 months behind and she's already massively behind.

Our surrounding schools are middle schools and quite large. This one at least has some continuity.
Then I think can any school handle sen students?.

I don't know what dd sen is. She's seemed very bright to me and has shown surprising capacity for learning dry grammar crap!!
Stuff I struggled with.... She got.
She's done really well with her spelling.. She has reversals so dyslexia is something she may have...

But whatever she has, I don't think it's extreme... If it's dyslexia, it must be mild.
When I've worked with her, it's been short bursts every day!!

No where near an hour! I can't understand why she's in the bottom!

I got to the age of 43 before I got a dyslexia diagnosis for myself. I have a mensa level IQ, and can spell wonderfully - but I can't retain information from reading which I assumed was just normal with complicated texts... turns out it's not and I've got one of the wonkiest profiles the ed-psych who did my assessment has seen in a long time (I got the assessment done as I went back to university and, knowing DD's difficulties - dyspraxia mainly - I took the chance to get myself screened).

Text to speech software for me and it's bloody amazing - I take things in first time now!

Why do you think her dyslexia is minld if she was two years behind in reading and is doing reverse letters and having grammer issues and needs to sit at the front of the class??
Def worth getting that assessed if possible or at least seeking further help contact the dyslexia association they may have a local branch in your area.
Dyslexia is not associtated with IQ, it is possible that eddison and einstein were dyslexic. (I say possible as I have heard Eddison been given every label going.).
How is her speach? Coordination? Writting? Maths? These can all be effected as well.

June 2007,very true.
The problem is we are in the dark at the moment, so we just don't know.
The teacher said mixing up letters was still very common for her age?!
Writing has got much better over lock down but is inconsistent, her maths is behind but again, progress was made during lock down. Her coordination etc seems fine.

Maybe the teacher doesn’t believe that the front of the class is the best place for your daughter?
Maybe the teacher wants to decide for herself?
Maybe your daughter is better at the back where there’s more room? Maybe you should give it a chance before getting all raging about everything!
Maybe take her to the GP and find out what (if any) SEN your daughter has instead of just minimalising things.

Has she had her eyes and hearing tested? My two had quite severe glue ear which wasn’t picked up till late y2, one of them had a hearing aid for a year. His eyesight also deteriorated quite significantly over the course of the year.
