Where's best to sell my phone?

A few days ago I dropped my iphone XR and smashed the screen. I have insurance, which I thought would just repair the screen, but they are actually replacing it with a refurbed (as new) model.

I have never actually got on with the XR, and would rather buy a new SE, as they seem a bit smaller to hold.

So I will have an as-new, with a year warranty phone to sell, but the question is where. Apple offer rubbish trade-in value. eBay seem to get better prices, but I worry about dishonest buyers claiming they haven't received it etc., ditto local Facebook pages.

Any experience I can draw on - am I worrying about nothing with eBay etc? It's probably worth about £500.

I posted three phones on my local Facebook selling groups and only managed to sell one of them.

I sold the other two to Music Magpie. Mazuma Mobile also buy phones but Music Magpie offered about £40 more.

Thanks, that's helpful.

Don't sell phones on Ebay. There's far too much buyer fraud going on. I've seen person after person being scammed.

I've sold a few phones on ebay and never had issues. As long as you receive payment before you post it and use the trackable postage options, which can also offer insurance to cover the cost of the item if it is genuinely lost or the buyer is claiming it is.

As a regular user of ebay though it is getting worse with scams and plain liars these days. You have to dig and dig for an item that is actually in the UK rather than a Chinese seller lying about 'UK Stock' and the return address is in Chinese Hmm. I have no issue if I know up front it's coming from overseas but it makes returns nearly impossible.

I've also sold several phones on eBay with no issue but they've only ever been worth £100 or so not £500 iPhones.

If you follow the rules about tracked and insured postage (royal mail special delivery probably best), check the buyer feedback comments, only post to UK and make a note of the IMEI number before you send, the risk is low.

Have a look on Plunc and see if they will take your model - they give an instant quote when you enter the details. I recently sold an old 4th gen iPad there, and their quote was much better than anywhere else. They will pay into your bank account the day they receive it, I was most impressed!

Mac2cash.com offer hassle free quick payment purchasing. You could probably get more selling on eBay, but if you're looking for a hassle free option that's one.

Try selling locally on sphock or Facebook etc. and state cash on collection only

Thank you so much for that link. I've just put my iPhone 8 in and they've offered me £180 😊

Great result, @susandelgado!

I know this is an old thread but this is very helpful.

It's just come up on my feed, and I'm now trying to sell my iPhone 11 😂
Sadly Plunc is no longer available for individuals, only companies. So I'm looking around for something better!
