Ankle ligament injury - will it ever heal? Is there any medical intervention or do I just have to live with it?

Almost three years ago I ran a half marathon with a slight injury. It all felt fine at the time, but the next day my ankle on the non-injured leg hurt, so I must have been running weird to compensate.

Long story short, after various interventions from physio and osteopath, it still hurts. It’s come and gone during the time but never gone away. Running is out of the question. Other exercise is fine at the time but causes pain later on.

So, my question is, is it worth speaking to my GP? Can they refer to anyone? Is there anything that would/could be done?

It’s the tendon on the inside of my ankle, not the Achilles

Ligaments & tendons are different things, so I'm confused already.
Ligments = connect bones to each other. Prone to overstretching.
Tendons = connect muscles to bones, prone to scar tissue.

Injuries to Both can get better and usually do get better.
History Sounds like you have tendon (not ligament) issue.

Doctors are useless for tendon problems, but massage and certain stretches have helped with all my types of tendonitis. Warmth (keeping joints warm) is important to reduce my problems, too.

ps, some folk swear by icing (does help my patellar tendonitis) or inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen.

Sorry, i do mean tendon, not ligament.

My advice would be to 1. see a McTimoney chiropractor. and 2. see a sports therapist. The McTimoney work on the principle of your pelvis being the foundations of your skeleton so if that's wonky then nothing else will work properly and the old injury will just be exacerbated.

My sister had chronic back pain when a teen - doctors and specialists stated she would need vertebrae fusing once she was 20 and had stopped growing. At 19 she saw a McTimoney who realigned her elbow (which had broken badly aged 9) which then stopped putting pressure on her shoulder which relieved the pressure on her neck which then didn't travel down her back causing the agonising pain.! Some people say its not 'proper' medicine but from my experience it makes perfect sense and works brilliantly!
