The red area is about 6cm diameter, yellow blister in the middle. Getting achey feelings down my leg. Last time I had anything like try is was in Mexico! I’m hoping it’s nothing that exotic Confused DH started google imaging which was NOT a help. Anyone any ideas please?!

What have I been bitten by?

Mozzie

mnahmnah · 30/08/2020 18:14

Really?! I’ve been bitten by mozzies before but never had this reaction

That's how I react to mozzie bites. See skeeter syndrome for more info!

Looks bloody sore. Hydrocortisone cream and I found ice pack really helped. (I've got one of those weird almost flexible hot water bottle type things specifically to make ice packs).

You might need that seeing to though.

I might be wrong but I always have a bad reaction to mozzie bites, comes up with a massive area of red with the same blister in the middle

mnahmnah · 30/08/2020 18:18

Oh bugger. Well I’ve put some paw paw ointment on for now. I’ll get an ice pack ready. It’s not sore really. Will also do the drawing a circle round it thing, so I can tell if it’s getting worse.

I sometimes, not always, maybe 5% of the time, react to a mosquito bite like this.

Could it have been a spider bite?

mnahmnah · 30/08/2020 18:19

Really hope I don’t need it seeing to, with it being bank holiday tomorrow, then I’m back at work! Typical timing.

@TorkTorkBam

According to my delightful google image search for UK spider bites, it doesn’t look like it. I seriously hope not because I’ll have nightmares about those stories of eggs being laid and hatching out Shock

I also often react to mozzie bites like this.

Hawkmoth · 30/08/2020 18:34

My midge bites go like that.

forgetthehousework · 30/08/2020 19:08

Looks a bit like a horsefly bite.

IrishCream123 · 30/08/2020 19:16

I was going to say Horsefly bite

BookSkark · 30/08/2020 19:29

Take an oral antihistamine and use hydrocortisone cream on it. I get this quite often - no idea what it is as it's not every bite that reacts this way, but I've had a couple this year. Mine always take a few days to really go down though - but you can tell they're not getting worse which is the main thing.

Gingaaarghpussy · 30/08/2020 19:30

I reacted to a red ant bite like that. Get thee some antihistamines.

BornOnThe4thJuly · 30/08/2020 19:31

Could definitely be a horse fly. I agree with trying antihistamines, hydrocortisone and an ice pack.

mnahmnah · 30/08/2020 19:37

I’ve only ever taken antihistamines once before, for the aforementioned bite in Mexico, and I got a very upset stomach from them. Found the hydrocortisone cream - already open and expiry date of may. Still usable?!

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 30/08/2020 19:37

I think if it were a horse fly bit you would know at the time. It's happened to me twice and it was like being stabbed with a needle as it bit into me... 🐎

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 30/08/2020 19:41

That could be tick bite rash i.e Lyme disease, I'd see a doctor.

GreyGardens88 · 30/08/2020 20:01

I once had a mozzie bite that suddenly flared up again about 4 months after being bitten, they can do very odd things

worriedandannoyed · 30/08/2020 22:15

I react exactly like this to mosquitos too. Is it hard and hot to touch too?

Hydrocortisone that's slightly out of date will probably be fine for one application tonight but I'd get some more tomorrow x

mnahmnah · 30/08/2020 22:19

Yes, hard and hot to touch! Had the ice pack on and it feels better. My leg isn’t having as many of the aches running up and down either. Will stick a bit of the out of date cream on! Thanks everyone

Keep an eye on it. My neighbour had a bite like this recently and ended up in hospital and in terrible pain. He was fobbed off by the GP when he first tried to get help so developed cellulitis and then suspected sepsis. He's only just getting back in his feet now after three weeks.

Mrsmadevans · 30/08/2020 22:29

Horsefly bite, l developed cellulitis from this and had to have antibiotics .

DianasLasso · 30/08/2020 22:31

Horsefly would be my first guess, but I have also had mozzie bites that went yellow in the centre. Have you been out in the countryside where you could have got a tick bite? It doesn't look quite like the classic "bull's eye" to me, but then again that's not a foolproof test anyway. If it could have been a tick bite you need to see a doctor tomorrow

Craftycorvid · 30/08/2020 22:32

I’d watch that carefully. It could be a tick bite - looks like it’s developing a sort of ‘target’ shape. I’d get a medical opinion.
