Selling on eBay

I've listed my old iPhone for sale on EBay and now I'm nervous!! I've since read it's open to scammers. Has anyone had any experience with this and any tips for selling safely? I'm thinking of just de-listing.

Look at their reviews.
If there are negative reviews or if the reviews are only a few and all as a buyer, avoid.

Scammers as in, general scammers? Or do you mean as in, they may do something with your phone?

You could put a note on your sale saying 'buyers with 95%+ review ratings at 20+ sales/purchases only please'. Or cancel and refund if the profile of a buyer gives any red flags off to you.

Scammers as in they say they haven't received it in the post and then I'm liable. I've said it will be posted by recorded delivery which hopefully deter some people...

Send recorded del (and mention you will do so in your add). And only to someone with solid reviews.

Should be alright. I'd feel worried selling anything of a value over 100 though. Would probably want some sort of tracked delivery.

Yes I've listed as tracked/signed for special delivery, so they shouldn't be able to say they didn't receive it.

CFs will claim it is not genuine.
It's usually because they have changed their mind and no longer want it.

Expensive item they will claim it is not genuine or that it is broken.

Yeah that's what I'm worried about. As it's an iPhone it'll likely go for nearly £200

What they will do is claim it is not genuine, you then accept the return and receive a £10 payg handset.

Take a note of the phone's IMEI number before sending. Make sure you send it tracked and signed for. I have sold a few old phone's on eBay. However I have found that phone's do better on Facebook marketplace.

Any electrical items I sell on Facebay. On Ebay there is too much risk people will claim they aren't working even when you know they worked when they left you.

I've sold many high value items on eBay and yes you will have your chancers.

Usually on my descriptions on a high value item I say that I will

1. Sell to only buyers with 100 feedback or higher

2.That every component inside has been recorded, filmed and marked with a magic pen

1. That I will film the items condition and every step of the way being packaged and sent off at the post office via special delivery with DPD for my protection and the buyers and keep the evidence for 12 months.

4.No dealings with any one international 5.Any private messages to deal outside of eBay will be reported

I also check the buyers negative feedback and anything iffy I will void the sale and return their funds

A scammer will look at all that and be on their way.

Only ever had problems with selling items under £10 in 15 years of being an eBayer.

Oh just to add too

Say the item is also entered on a licensed database marking system that match the magic pen stamps.

I’ve got the opposite problem, I’m looking to buy 3 iPhones for my dtds birthday and am very wary of scammers too ! I might be interested depending on model etc
