MP3 player for 7-yr old? (Songs, Audible etc)

Can anyone recommend a cheap and robust MP3 player for a 7-yr old? I'd like to put songs and audiobooks on it - some will be FLAC format or similar, but it would be good to be able to put Audible content on it too. Ideally it wouldn't have games - just a straightforward interface for moving between tracks. Thank you!

Sorry no advice here but I’m following as my 8 year old has asked for an MP3 player for his birthday too!

Seen these advertised and thought it looked quite fun! Haven’t bought one so can’t comment on it fully though

Ahh thank you Pumpkins - I saw something similar in my search called the Yoto box, I think, but I reckon something more portable might be more suitable. I used to have Creative MP3 players years ago and they were really solid, but it doesn't look like they make them any more. There's loads of random non-recognisable brands on Amazon but I never know how reliable the reviews are!

I'm a former Creative user, I have a similar version of this that plays Audible content. You use the files structure to get it to play like a Creative

I have a SanDisk for running, and it is really solid, easy to use, and so easy to transfer files from my laptop

Haven’t tried for years, but when we looked for a cheap player to use audible for our DDs, none of them worked easily enough for a small child to operate/lots of faff to actually get the files on there. We eventually bought iPods although unfortunately a v expensive option! How about a budget android smart phone but with no SIM card in it? You could use parental controls to prevent use of games etc.

what about some sort of smart speaker like alexa, or a bluetooth radio or speaker you can transmit from your phone so you have control

Thank you all - sorry for delay!

@Svalberg and @CMOTDibbler, that's exactly what is bought in the end! I honestly thought they were having a giraffe when I opened the box - it is miniscule!! You can tell it's a while since I've had an MP3 player 😂

I used the Audible app for Windows to move books across, which was straightforward. Took me ages to work out how to get podcasts on there but in the end I downloaded Grover (also Windows) to my laptop and transferred episodes from there. Ripped CDs were easy - I just dragged them from WMP.

The interface is tiny, @slipperylizard, you're right, but I'm hoping it's simple enough for my 7-yr old - he's reasonably good at following instructions for this kind of thing/doing the working out. (I'll probably regret that comment!...)

@Mallowa we do have an Alexa downstairs and he likes asking for it to play music, but I thought he'd enjoy this in the car on long journeys and when he wants some peace from his sibling!
