What time can I get the hoover out?

A big chunk of my bedroom ceiling fell down at 5am leaving us in a fog of black plaster dust. I can't get back to sleep. Obviously I can't clean it up yet but what time would be reasonable? Mid terrace house so neighbours either side of the room.
I have been up since but dh is fast asleep in the midst of it. Also as a side note why do these things always happen on a Sunday or bank holiday?

dh is fast asleep in the midst of it.
I hope that's not literally true, breathing in all that dust must be very bad for your lungs.
I'd say 900 seeing as you've left it until now. Although I'd have had no problem with you clearing it up immediately, it's an emergency, hardly every day housework,

MegaClutterSlut · 30/08/2020 07:02

I would do it now as its not exactly housework and if they complain, explain but if you want to wait until a reasonable time I'd say 8

MsChatterbox · 30/08/2020 07:03

I would have done it immediately. My neighbours hoovering wouldnt wake me as its a bit like white noise.

ditavonteesed · 30/08/2020 07:05

Dh is literally fast asleep, he did open the window. I tried putting the quilt over my face but couldn't settle as it left me a bit shaken even though we were expecting it as it looked like it was going to happen last night.

I was going to ask when I could put the washing machine on but that is just ordinary housework not an emergency like you have! Could you start by cleaning down with hot water etc and then get to hoovering about 8am? If you can hoover while DH is asleep, then I don't think it will wake the neighbours!

Deathraystare · 30/08/2020 07:42

Can you do my room too. Just to wake up the bugger in the next room who had some giggling girls in his room at 1.15 this morning and then proceeded to throw up noisily in the loo and left the door and lights on in the loo so I could hear the fan :(

I have already told him not to leave cooked rice on the kitchen top for weeks and then eat it! Last night he was throwing up and groaning all night!

Deathraystare · 30/08/2020 07:43

Last time I meant.

toomanyspiderplants · 30/08/2020 07:52

omg poor you. I had a ceiling come down in a terraced house many years ago..lucky no one was hurt. start after 8....its an emergency

ditavonteesed · 30/08/2020 08:00

@Deathraystare that sucks you would be well within your rights to hoover, play very loud music.

Curse of old houses, not a big deal. I'm really glad it came down at night so the kids weren't near it. I saw the crack appear yesterday, was planning on getting someone in to take it down next week didn't expect it to go quite so quickly.

I'd leave it to 9 if I were you.

inappropriateraspberry · 30/08/2020 08:39

As an emergency? Just clear it up immediately, and if that means vacuuming, then do you do it! It's. Its not like you'd be doing a quick whip round of the lounge at 2am!!

ditavonteesed · 30/08/2020 09:17

I've started, it's disgusting. Going to be an all day job I think.

What time can I get the hoover out?

Op, have you made sure there's no asbestos first? I'm sure its just plaster, but just incase.

Iwantacookie · 30/08/2020 09:51

I would of done it when it happened tbh. Its not like you do that every day and I cant see anyone minding. Obviously you might have a pissed neighbour at your door but it's not an every day occurrence.
