Why are there fireworks going off

I have fireworks going off on 2 sides of my house - way closer than any wedding venues.

I’m in NE Scotland

They both started bang on 8:45pm

What have I missed...?..

Not sure but I’ve heard some here too in Yorkshire.

I heard some a couple of nights ago. We never hear any around here except for bonfire night, so it stood out as very unusual. No wedding venues either. I assumed it was just someone’s birthday??

Llamapolice · 29/08/2020 21:27

Ashura? My Libyan neighbours are celebrating. I don't know if fireworks are traditional though?

BookSkark · 29/08/2020 21:28

We've had some here too (SW London). DD enjoyed watching them out her window, but I have no idea what they were for! I assumed a birthday or something, but if it's not just us then maybe there's another reason.

Midlands

Yesterday so loud my disabled mum rang me to tell me as it scared her so much!

mnahmnah · 29/08/2020 21:31

I noticed it’s Ashura. But it’s more a mournful observation than celebratory. Fireworks would be out of character i think

mnahmnah · 29/08/2020 21:32

Maybe it’s parents everywhere celebrating the end of the summer holidays and their kids going back to school Smile

Dowser · 29/08/2020 22:35

Dowser · 29/08/2020 22:39

@Notredamn
Well I related your quip to mr Dowser who had just taken a gulp of wine and ended up choking, so I had to bang his back 😂
