Growing herbs in the garden at home

A friend gave us a lemon verbena plant recently to go in our 'herb garden' which until then consisted of a rosemary shrub. It's made me keen to get a few more herbs but we don't have a huge amount of space and I'd love some inspiration ...

Bear in kind the lemon verbena isn't frost Hardy and will need to come in for the winter.

Herbs grow very well in pots and planters - I've got a bay tree, oregano, thyme, parsley, and rosemary. Oh, and basil.

We've got basil, parsley, coriander, sage, thyme, marjoram, rosemary.

Wrong time of year to be planting out the soft herbs though.

I’ve got rosemary, oregano, sage, several mints ( in pots! They take over otherwise), thyme and parsley.

Thyme is bombproof. The stuff you get in supermarkets does really well. Same for the pots of chives.

I had some lemon thyme which was lovely but our wet winter destroyed it.

I have a long strip at the back of my garden with assorted perennial herbs and spaces for tender annual herbs like parsley, fill and chervil in between.

I have rosemary, sage, thyme, bay, basil, parsley, mint and chives all in pots and use them all in cooking. Sometimes I just pull a leaf and smell.

I can only grow basil indoors on a windowsill. Parsley always bolts. I've tried mint in a large trough but it's died Confused

OTOH, rosemary does well for me in a pot. The slugs don't eat it and the winter doesn't kill it off.

I've got a Vietnamese coriander in a pot/trough that's doing brilliantly; it wilts in very hot or dry weather but LOVES warm rain.

I've got a lemon balm that I put in my concrete front yard in a small pot. It grew so much it tipped the pot over and basically escaped from it. And continued to grow. It's now HUGE and as far as I can tell is basically living off a crack in the concrete. It's indestructible. It's lovely for making tea.
