Does anyone read the independent or the spectator?

I am a bit fed up with the guardian and have abandoned bbc for current affairs so I am looking for something else.

Are these any good? Or another re ommendation? I am planning a trial subscription in the first instance.

Also a guardian leaver - I read the FT and Private Eye with an occasional purchase of the Times in hard copy on the weekend.

I read the Spectator. It has some good writers such as Douglas Murray and it is a refreshing change from the relentlessly precious Guardian. Its readership has been skyrocketing because of its commitment to freedom of speech and debate at a time when both are being attacked by zealots.

As a Guardian leaver I read the Times. Also like the Spectator and Private Eye. Independent I don’t think is great.

You could buy copies of the Spectator, Private Eye, Time magazine, The Week from a newsagent.
The Week was Rupert Murdoch owned but not sure now who owns it. I found the international news too depressing though.
Private Eye winds me up too much.
I get the Spectator but some of it is a bit highbrow for me - chess, wine, theatre....

The Independent is like the Guardian on cookies, just reporting "he said, she said on twitter".
I've taken out a speccie sub and look at the headlines on the guardian from time to time.

I'd be interested in the week or time too if I could get it on my phone. It needs to be easy browsing for this task. Thanks for all suggestions so far, a few to try

I cannot believe I'm about to say this, but... The Telegraph? At the moment I have a subscription to The Times and The New York Times (once the best paper in the world and still very well written, though has fallen far from old standards of disinterestedness). Times is a bit tabloidy and I feel the reporting lacks depth. I like the columnists, though others seem tired of endless Caitlin Moran at the moment. (Personally really enjoying her serialised book!) I had a subscription to the Telegraph for a month in May. It has really good coverage of what Boris and his cronies are doing, I assume because he's known inside-out to the paper. It was the first mainstream place other than the Spectator to be critical of lockdown.

I'm a bit lost paper-wise too. I feel sorry the Guardian is having a hard time but its "wokeness" just winds me up these days.

The Independent used to be the best paper but awful now it's changed and gone online. Trashy stories and littered with spelling mistakes.

FT now seem to have the best quality newspaper journalism. I also find myself reading articles from the Spectator and the Critic online. I'm worried they're a bit conservative-leaning but do enjoy the different perspective. I've not been tempted to take out a subscription though.

I don't think I could go as far as trying the Telegraph. I think it would wind me up for the opposite reason the Guardian does.

I mainly read the Telegraph and the Spectator. The Independent is a joke and every time someone links to a Guardian article, I see they are begging for money. I don't think it will be long before it goes the way of the Independent. I'm not a Labour voter so don't otherwise read it.
