DH was stung by a wasp this morning, he has just showed me his arm now and I've never seen a wasp sting spread quite like that?

That looks nasty. Has he taken antihistamine tablet and applied topical antihistamine?
Ice and vinegar compress is usually very soothing.

Gingaaarghpussy · 26/08/2020 22:42

Get him some antihistamine. It looks like he may be allergic to wasps.

Yes, my arse cheek looked liked that after I was stung, bloody painful it was.

Just read that it was this morning he got stung, don't think mine looked quite that angry for that long to be honest.

Wagsandclaws · 26/08/2020 23:16

I've given him some portion type stuff that I got for the kids from Boots ( it's suitable for adults too at a 10ml dose ) I've never seen a wasp sting look that big that's all.

I've had two wasp stings and been hospitalised twice.
I now know to take antihistemine.
Keep an eye on it. My swellings ballooned very quickly.

Toontown · 26/08/2020 23:19

Looks like he's had a mild allergic reaction. Needs to be careful as I started a bit like that then went on to have a full blown anaphylactic reaction and had to rush to a&e all swollen.

Longlockdown · 26/08/2020 23:25

I had anaphylaxis with wasp stings. Treatment at hospital was 3 years of immunotherapy. When they injected me with a trillionth of the venom, that's what happened. Might be worse because it's in his muscle.
Ice, lots of antihistamine and trip to pharmacists in morning if still hot, red & hard (his arm...☺️)

FrameyMcFrame · 26/08/2020 23:31

That's a large local reaction.

Use antihistamine ASAP

I now carry a dose of steroids in case I am stung as I'm also allergic

That is what a sting looks like on me. Normally it’s miserable and angry like that for about a week. (One of the many reasons I love staying indoors)

awkwardturtle · 26/08/2020 23:38

I got cellulitis from a wasp sting. Draw around the swelling with a pen and if it has spread by morning phone the doctor urgently and get some antibiotics. Good luck.

Wagsandclaws · 26/08/2020 23:47

Thanks everyone will do as advised above!

I had something similar looking very recently, was from a hornet apparently, took over a week to look any better and still have a slight scab even now. I went to the pharmacist as the redness and swelling was growing but similar advice on here from PP.

40somethingJBJ · 27/08/2020 01:36

My first wasp sting looked like that. My second was anaphylactic. I’d make sure he has a good dose of antihistamines and get it checked out if it shows no signs of improvement.

peridito · 27/08/2020 07:56

I thought that was a normal reaction .Partner stung overnight on outer side of elbow and resulted in similar - redder ,more swollen .But without the clear margins on OP's pics .

Which ,as mentioned ,might be cellulitis starting ?

Got partner to take anti histamines and ice pack .Took good 2 days to go down .
