Can’t fit in bed

I have a small guest bedroom.

I chose one of these beds as I thought it would fit the space: www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-savoy-two-open-spring-trundle-guest-bed-canvas-pebble-small-single/p3254094?sku=236702113&s_ppc=2dx92700055674801358&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1M721o-56wIVmpntCh3QjgvqEAQYAyABEgJPavD_BwE

It is currently in this position. Is it actually possible for me to get it along the line marked 196cm?

I can’t work out how if so Sad and I really want to make it more of a sofa so I can fit in a desk

The black square is a built in cupboard.

Yes the bed is 6cm shorter than the wall, presumably skirting along the bottom will take up about 1.5 cm on each side so you'll have 3cm less to play with.

Might be a bit awkward to turn it with so little space but it should be do able

Solasum · 26/08/2020 16:10

That’s what I thought, but I can’t work out how to turn it without one of the corners hitting the wall because there is no room to manoeuvre. Am I missing something very obvious?

It'd be a squeeze but I'd imagine you should be able to do it if you pull it out beyond the black cupboard before starting to turn.

wowfudge · 26/08/2020 16:12

Take the mattresses off and trundle bit out first and it should be much easier to move.

BearSoFair · 26/08/2020 16:12

Oh good point about the corners, I hadn't thought about that...

Lou573 · 26/08/2020 16:12

You have to lift one end up and sort of pivot and lower it in - I just had to do the same.

MonicaGellerBing · 26/08/2020 16:12

Can you not lift the bed from the bottom up to the ceiling so it's standing on its head and then spin and drop

Cheesecakejar · 26/08/2020 16:14

Could you pick it up from the end a few feet in the air and just swing it round as such? Someone at the headboard pulling it back when needed? Obviously standing at the side of the bed....

JamieLeeCurtains · 26/08/2020 16:15

PIVOT! To quite Ross Geller

Solasum · 26/08/2020 16:16

I thought about the on end thing, will there be space for it to swing down? Because the bed frame is completely rigid and can’t be assembled in situ

The headboard should screw off. Take trundle bit/mattresses off then tip on its side before spinning it.

PaquitaVariation · 26/08/2020 16:18

Yes, you have to lift it up at one end and then do a bit of manoeuvring as you lower it. I have to do the same in my kids rooms.

Solasum · 26/08/2020 16:19

There isn’t actually a headboard on mine, it is just the boxy bit.

Happy to try a pivot if the verdict is not impossible!

OP posts:
Invisimamma · 26/08/2020 16:19

Turn it up on it's side and manoeuvre it round. Do you have someone to help you?

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 26/08/2020 16:20

I think your going to need 2 people lifting and trying to drop it straight down. One on each long edge as you won't be able to stand at the ends.

Plop it down in the middle of the room, climb over the bed and push it up to the wall.

CatBatCat · 26/08/2020 16:20

Pivot!

nc600 · 26/08/2020 16:21

No, not without scraping the wall. Where is the door?

Solasum · 26/08/2020 16:22

I will attempt to find a helper. Just didn’t want to ask anyone if it is actually not possible. Thanks everyone!

modgepodge · 26/08/2020 16:22

There’s some maths involved here 😁 the diagonal across the bed is roughly 204cm (Pythagorus theorem) so you won’t be able to just turn it with the bed flat on the floor, no. You will need to lift one end of the bed up as you turn, which will obviously be easier if you take the mattress off to make it lighter.

Solasum · 26/08/2020 16:23

Oh. The door is on the small bit by the black cupboard. There are stairs beyond after a small landing

OP posts:
RedCatBlueCat · 26/08/2020 16:46

How big is the window? Can you use an open window, or the extra 15cm given by a windowsill to pivot the bed, then lower once horizontal?

Solasum · 26/08/2020 16:54

The window is only about 50cm wide, so not helpful

OP posts:
fatgirlslimmer · 26/08/2020 17:02

Can you not put the desk along the opposite wall? totally misses the point

Solasum · 26/08/2020 17:48

@fatgirlslimmer I would be too wedged in Blush

So. It turns out, lift and pivot does work. Hurray. But not quite. As it seems the wall isn’t straight. So even though it measures 196 across at measuring height, and the skirting boards are not very thick at all, it is about half a cm too narrow at the base with the skirting boards as they are. Grrr. So I am now going to have to get some wood to lift the ends of the bed up 6cm so they can stand just above the skirting board. I don’t want to mess with the skirting board as afraid it will necessitate replastering.
