Visiting London for the day with DH and DC 13 and 15. What is best ticket or card to use?

Travelling from Falconwood into London and then a bit on buses and tube. We could use our contactless cards for the adults but what for the Chn? We haven’t got time to order a visitor oyster card and get it delivered. I am on tfl phone call. The chap can’t tell me how much a child Tavel card would be. Do we get an Oyster card for them for the day from station or the shop next door?
Losing patience. 23 mins in. Lots of pauses.

Travelling from zone 4.
I just want to know do we get them to use their card, get a travel card, is there a child travel card or buy an Oyster card for them.
This music is driving me mad.

You can buy Oyster cards from the ticket machines at the station.

Fishyfinger · 25/08/2020 18:04

From memory you have to apply for a child oyster card in advance.

You can buy them a day travel card each from any machine

The guy said we could buy them an Oyster card but it would be an adult one and the cap would be the same as them using their contactless bank cards.
He said no child travel cards.
We will order visitor Oyster cards for the future but we don’t have time for that now.

Just buy a kids travel card at the station. It will either be £6.70 or £9.50 depending on zone and travelling time.

Are you travelling in by train/tube? If yes you get a paper children's one day travel card. I don't think you can get a Zone 1 - 4 so it will be a Zone 1 - 6 but that won't matter. Can be used on trains, buses, trams, Docklands light rail and tube.
I would recommend taking some ID for the 15 if they look quite grown up.

Thank you.
Fishy finger, that link is very helpful.

We will get them a travel card for the day and use our bank cards for us.

And take id for the 15 yr old.

You can buy an Oyster card at the first mainline station you get to and ask them to put the Young Visitor Discount on it. It then charges half the adult pay as you go rate.

Or you can buy a child Day Travelcard for ZONES 1-4 for £6.70 each.

Info on Young Visitor Discount.

Just buy a child’s day ticket, £6.70 per day. We used it for our 14 year old a couple of weeks ago.
