Labelling DCs school kit at Secondary

Pretty much that really, DS is starting Secondary next week and in addition to being Autistic will not know anyone in his year as we recently moved here. I’m really anxious about making sure nothing embarrasses him.

The school information pack states that kit, bags, clothing etc should be labelled to avoid losing them. His logoed blazer alone cost me £35 so I’m not keen on having to replace it anytime soon, but I remember it being the most mortifying thing when my mum labelled our school stuff.

I’d love to know what the general consensus is - do you put your DCs names on their school things if they are at secondary?

Just use stickers but buy plain black text on white background ones

I just Sharpie his name on the washing instructions label.

Sharpie on label here too

Just use pen on label

Coffeeandbeans · 25/08/2020 17:29

I write Child’s initials on all of the labels. He has no say in it.

I sharpie everything except blazer (tightly sewn in full name tape in back of collar and up the sleeve and rugby shirt (name tape on seam by label as reversible). Everything else we have spares of, but losing blazer or rugby shirt is expensive

Yes, because the clothes cost me good money. It seems crazy not to, given how many identical items there will be in the school. I only did clothes, not waterbottle or stationery items.

Surname and tutor group written on the label with sharpie. I have to say though that it makes no difference when they leave stuff in the changing room or whatever. In our experience it just goes to lost property anyway. I suppose when they go and ask they know its their's they are getting back.

Thanks this is a sensible compromise. I’m used to labelling everything as he’s so careless

I just use simple stikins name stickers. No issues.

Yes label it. Label everything. We have a housekeeper who finds an endless amount of uniform every day. She finds the initials / names and returns the items to their students in their class. Other Parents complain Ghat an expensive item has been lost. Never labelled.

I tell all the year 7 every year to label their clothing and bag as the housekeeper will bring it back to them when she finds it.
