Big boobs, big tummy but skinny legs!

Mydarlingsleepthief · 25/08/2020 13:25

How do I dress my body?! I have massive boobs, excess skin on my stomach from 4 pregnancies, but a small bum and skinny legs!

I would be a size 10 if it wasn’t for my boobs and stomach.

I usually live In skater dresses but after seeing some pictures of myself recently they make me look huge Sad

Any advice from anyone with similar body shape? Blush

Me. I'm Humpty basically.
Always had big boobs, now post menopause I've the belly to match but my legs are still a 10. I mainly buy 16 tops, 14 if they're vanity sizers like Next etc, 18 if they're the opposite of vanity like Zara!

You are apple shape I think? Generally the advice is to wear darker colours on the bigger bits and lighter colours or patterns on the slimmer bits. So for you that would dark plainer tops and lighter or patterned skirts or trousers.
Trinny and Susannah's show was brilliant at dressing for shape. You could have a look for any clips of dressing for apple shape. The fashions will obviously be dated the principles will be the same.

This is me. Going into autumn I will be wearing mostly Skirts that are above the knee, Often patterned, And tights and boots.
On the top half I wear fine knit sweaters that are largely plain in shapes like, polos ( again fine knit not chunky or ribbed) batwing, puffy sleeves or any kind of voluminous sleeve ( good for balancing out the boobs) also boat neck is ok. Happy to wear high neck as I think it looks more modern than the age old advise of v neck or cowl which I think looks dated.
I also wear a lot of cross body bags which separate the boobs a bit and are good for hiding a bit of a tum.
I wear a lot of dresses to. Asking I keep them short. Often with a high neck/ voluminous sleeve.
I do wear the odd dress with a v neck if it’s like a tea dress or something.
I do wear jeans, mostly skinny high waisted. I like to layer my tops and have loads of little h and m vests to go under them and give a bit of length and break things up.
In the summer it’s lots of little dresses, again above the knee. I have biker jacket ( very plain and no pockets on the front) and quite a few little single breasted blazers to go over things.
Also like a pinafore if it is very plain on the top.

It’s def harder to be super fashionable with this body type. It’s a case of compromising between fashion and what suits.

I kind of think if you get your legs out most people don’t notice your bad bits. Lots of friends have commented on my “amazing” legs and don’t even realise I have a bit of a tum complex. They assume I am body confident because I flash so much leg.

feelingverylazytoday · 26/08/2020 11:12

You're on an apple shape. So am I, though I've lost weight so it's not so noticeable.
When I bigger I mostly wore leggings/jeggings/skinny jeans, with a mid thigh length tunic, which mostly skimmed over my bigger bits. For summer, maxi and midi dresses work well. Again, you really need something that isn't too tight and clingy.
I don't know if it's a concern for you, but when I lost weight I found I really need to exercise a lot, that slimmed down my front a lot, and made my arms and legs look more shapely instead of just skinny.

Amber0685 · 26/08/2020 11:14

Look up dressing a inverted triangle shape.

MrsVeryTired · 26/08/2020 11:30

Skinny jeans, skinny jeans and more skinny jeans Grin

Since DS my body has changed, I used to be a slim pear but now def top heavy with skinny legs and small bum.

I like a slim (not tight but not billowy) t-shirt with a loose cardi and skinny jeans, often go for interest on the jeans and/or footwear, either interesting colour or design, stripes down the side, ankle zips etc.

Find large floaty tops/t-shirts make me look pregnant but my waist too big to go for nipped in.Tops to just above hip length, dark colours.

Blobby10 · 26/08/2020 11:57

Carycy I thought the advice for big boobs was to avoid polo necks? I am not overly huge but have noticed that when I wear polo's it makes my chest look bigger (and decidedly unflattering). Unless you break it up with chunky necklaces maybe?

Mydarlingsleepthief I have found shift dresses to be the most flattering cut for my midriff. I too have very slim legs but all the weight is now round my middle. For work, in the winter I pair the shift dress with a blazer/jacket of some sort. Or just an open cardigan for a more casual look. If I wear a skirt and blouse then I make sure the blouse is long enough to reach the widest point of my hips and doesn't have a peplum - why were those infernal frills ever invented?! - and NEVER tuck anything in. Same with trousers - always have the top long enough to reach the widest point of your bum and never tuck it in.

I did read somewhere that layers are our friend - either waistcoats or cardigans, anything which breaks up a solid load of colour on our top half

This is all so helpful thank you 😊 I will look up
Apple shape!

I'm a bit of an apple crossed with a rectangle. Some of the things that work for me:
Skinny jeans in light denim with a plain dark coloured top that finishes at hip level.
Dark skinny jeans with a dark top and a longline cardy or jacket over the top.
Dresses with ruching and gathering around the tummy/hips.
Bias cut skirts.

TheSeedsOfADream · 26/08/2020 12:32

Oh lordy, if I wear a polo I look like I'm carrying 2 watermelons.
V necks oddly are much more flattering for me.

Carycy · 26/08/2020 12:44

“Theseedsofadream” I suppose if does depend how big your boobs are. I am a 30FF And a size 10 and think I look fine in a polo. If it is a fine knit/cotton and doesn’t hang straight of the boobs. A big chunky lose fitting polo is a no no.
I do hover feel extremely Dowdy and drab in a v neck jumper. I pretty much lived in them in the early 2000s as thought thems were the rules so just can’t go back now.

Carycy · 26/08/2020 12:46

I would also call myself a bit of a diamond shape on the lookieroo site as in narrow hips, narrow shoulders, boobs and a tum.

Mydarlingsleepthief · 26/08/2020 20:23

Those saying skinny jeans, are high waisted better? I struggle with sizes due to my stomach being a 12 but bum and legs a 10, so I’m either constantly uncomfortable and hanging out of jeans, or they are too loose and sagging on the bum!

OP posts:
Blobby10 · 27/08/2020 15:04

Mydarlingsleepthief I would got for the high waisted ones every time! I have a naturally high waist anyway but even if I didn't anything low slung or 'hipster' would sit just below my c section overhang/fat stomach Grin. I would wear skinny jeans with a tunic top but tend to prefer straight jeans these days (if I can ever find any!!) over bootcut which Trinny and Susannah used to say were so flattering. I suspect bootcut in those days were todays straight cut as todays bootcut seem to be like flares.

beautifulmonument · 29/08/2020 11:34

Trouble is it's practically impossible to find high waisted jeans to fit if you have a bigger waist/tummy with narrow hips/slim legs because they're always made for a standard waist to hip ratio. Maternity trousers can be good.

Mydarlingsleepthief · 29/08/2020 23:30

That’s a good idea actually, I might try some maternity ones!!

MrsVeryTired · 30/08/2020 12:06

On skinny jeans, just try different pairs until you get some that fit right, I wear a 12 but my waist is more a 14 and legs a 10 Grin

Some fit well, some dont, I have Lee jeans that are a lovely fit , and some from Sainsburys that also fit well.

And I don't mean superskinny, just skinny/slim to show off good legs but not be uncomfortable on mum-tums or when you fancy some Cake or Wine as I do!

ShimmeringIce · 30/08/2020 23:40

Where is everyone finding fine-knits?

Mydarlingsleepthief · 01/09/2020 21:17

I found some fine knit batwing jumpers from newlook, along with some high waisted jeans that look ok! I’m rubbish at linking but will try!

What shape would you call small boobs, big tum and big thighs? I never know what to wear!!
