What does Dh want for his birthday?

Please please please need ideas!

He's turning 51 so not a significant one. Past presents that were a success include ipad, nice speakers, ugg sleepers. Best one was a trip abroad but because of Covid I'm ruling out restaurants and hotels.

He likes electronic stuff but has all he needs I think. Has an apple watch. Doesn't need a new phone. Has the speakers. Hates Alexa. Got a kindle before and ignored it.

Hobbies wise, he's pretty boring. Likes football but not enough to watch every week. Likes to read and is really into economics and politics. Maybe a magazine subscription? Likes good dark chocolate - a taster subscription? any recommendations?

Heeeelp!! :-)

Mag subscription would be good. The spectator or private eye?

My dh got binoculars recently which he loves and we use a lot on walks and holidays now.

Audible subscription?

Framed up art?

GoGoGone · 25/08/2020 12:26

Does he like wildlife? Motion sensor night vision camera so he can watch animals in the garden? Or a weather station?

Subscription to the economist

Light aircraft ride

Weekend away?

Bought my OH a Morgan driving experience for his birthday last year that we are finally getting to do on his birthday this year!! Although the drive is only for one, two of us get to look round the factory.

Do you have a budget in mind?

Thanks!

Not much interest in wild life (although he's a Biologist!!)

Framed up art is a really good idea.... So hard because we have really different tastes... Maybe if I choose something I hate!

askinfforfriend · 25/08/2020 12:32

No interest in cars or flying, thanks though

Maybe weekend away is safe... Struggling to know what's safe to do with the stupid virus!

I've no ideas but I'm following as I'm in the same boat as you!

What do buy the man who seems to have absolutely everything?

askinfforfriend · 25/08/2020 12:40

Ugh I know! Hate thinking about birthday present ideas. It's soooo hard!

Sooverthemill · 25/08/2020 12:41

A cheese subscription
A coffee subscription
A telescope
An easel
A photo display thing can't remember what it's called where you have a scrolling display of photos ( actually I loathe this as I don't like the constant movement in the periphery of my vision)
A weekend away post covid eg to Bruges or Lake District
A boat trip eg canal boat hire for the day
A good wireless speaker eg Bose
A membership to a London gallery as he used to have to go to London for work a lot so he could sit in members room have free coffee and work and maybe even look at theart sometimes

All things I've bought my really difficult DH ( now 61)

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 25/08/2020 12:42

What about a couple of nights away in a 5*hotel somewhere you know he would like to visit/revisit with a reservation at a good restaurant.

Chocolates from hotel du chocolate.
Subscription to the Economist, Private Eye, Spectator.
Does he like boats? Power boat ride, weekend on a canal boat.

DP is quite a bit younger so maybe these aren’t relevant but it’s his birthday soon and he’s getting -

Penhaligons Halfeti Leather
Vejas
Nice loungewear, probably Ralph Lauren
A personalised metal water bottle (he works in sport and I’ve lost count of how many water bottles he has lost so hoping one with his initials on which are quite distinctive will help!)
This table top fireplace - www.wayfair.co.uk/diy-plumbing/pdp/philippi-burn-oil-tabletop-fireplace-pip10014.html

FizzyPink · 25/08/2020 12:49

Oh and he really wants one of these pieces of art but we’re waiting to move house to see what fits rareinteriorart.co.uk/collections/best-of-british-embellished

askinfforfriend · 25/08/2020 12:53

Really like the canal boat hire for the day idea! Thanks!

Interesting art! Not to my taste but maybe that's a good thing! :-D

Cheese subscription is good as well! He loves coffee, chocolate, cheese and beer. So any of those would work I suppose. Just feels a bit more of a Christmas present.....

A push bike. All 50 ish blokes I know seem to be cycling mad.Confused

A chocolate subscription? A nice bottle of his favourite alcohol?

FinallyHere · 25/08/2020 13:43

Voucher for sexual fantasy of his choice.

Mumdiva99 · 25/08/2020 13:45

A soda stream....every house needs soda stream. More environmentally friendly than plastic bottles of pop. Can make flavoured sparkling water or plain sparkling water if he is a bit more 'sophisticated'.

Pizza oven for the garden.

askinfforfriend · 25/08/2020 13:58

True that most 50yo are cycling mad. Dh on the other hand is cycling averse... We live in a cycling town and he drives everywhere....

We don't really drink pop here. Children would love the soda stream but not sure would be too interested
