We’re staying near Pwllheli, it’s very windy out and we thought it’d be nice to park up somewhere and watch the waves crashing. Any suggestions please? I thought Hells Mouth but we’d have to walk onto the beach to see them. Many thanks.

Criccieth might work. There is not much parking on the road with a view of the sea though. and it is metered in the day. I can't remember if there is a car park further down.

North Wales in the rain - brings back lots of childhood memories! I'm not 100% sure but think you can get quite close to the sea from the road at Criccieth. Hope you have a good day our

Criccieth has parking right on the sea front and the castle looks amazing from there when the sea is rough.

You don’t have to walk down to hells mouth. If you take some of the back roads up into Rhiw the views down to the bay are spectacular.

Or head to the north coast of the peninsula. I’d recommend Dinas Dinlle. Car park is right on the beach and there is a lovely chippy where you can buy a hot drink and some chips for your viewing! It’s very very blowy over here at the moment though so be careful.

QuestionableMouse · 25/08/2020 11:15

Please stay safe and don't get too close. I grew up in a seaside town where a family died doing this. (The water pulled their car into the sea and they drowned.)

StarSpangled372 · 25/08/2020 13:20

Thanks for all the suggestions, we went to Dinas Dinlle, it was awesome. DD loved it, we were lying back and the wind was supporting our full weight. Waves were huge. Very safe too, we were a long way from the shore. Back at the cottage now to make a fire, play monopoly, eat popcorn and watch Harry Potter. These are my favourite holidays.

Ive just been to Dinas Dinlle its my local beach. I tend to go on days like this as i cant stand the place with holiday makers there.

Every storm i go down there.

IveSeenThings · 25/08/2020 15:46

Just how big are these waves?
I haven't been to Wales for too long, mainly due to wet, cold summer holidays there as a child, but I appreciate different things now I think!

LongBlobson · 25/08/2020 15:54

We're on holiday near there too - sounds like a fun outing but don't fancy the drive - loads of bits of trees coming down where we are! We'll be staying in our cottage with popcorn, movies and board games.

Such a contrast to yesterday when I swam in the sea under blue skies... And should be nice again tomorrow!

Sheknowsaboutme · 25/08/2020 17:15

It was immense! Seen worse but still nature at its best. Where i live its rough when its windy so well used to wind and rain. Doesn’t scare me anymore!

StarSpangled372 · 25/08/2020 17:42

Sheknowsaboutme what’s it like to live around here? I’m finding myself daydreaming about retiring here, living a simple life in the countryside with daily walk on the beach.

Bloody lovely!

I live rural Snowdonia. Stunning on a hot day, grim yet lovely in winter. I like the wind rain storms. I’m used to them and its all I’ve known.

I love the wilderness, the quarries, no shops in the village, mountains, long hikes.

If you’re in corporate, jobs are not ample, council/NHS etc are ample.

Are you a city dweller?

StarSpangled372 · 25/08/2020 20:11

I am NHS, I live in a town 2 hours away but spent lots of time here during my childhood. We couldn’t move until DD has flown the nest but I’m craving a simple life. I’d love to spend my spare time walking the beaches with our dogs. A calmness comes over me as we drive into snowdonia. I think we’ll try and find a cottage that we can keep coming back to for short breaks throughout the year. The one we’re staying in is beautiful but too expensive to rent out multiple times a year.

and I love this wild weather, I actually prefer it to the heat. As we were driving today, DH said it was grim and I thought it was absolutely beautiful.

You’re in the North West i take it? You’d be fine finding a job with the NHS then.

I can possibly help find another location to stay in if you want!

Have a look here for cottages close to Caernarfon.

Austereorange · 25/08/2020 20:48

I’m glad you enjoyed my suggestion OP. It was wild and lovely today. I hope you are tucked up safe tonight. It’s blowing a hoolie!

StarSpangled372 · 25/08/2020 21:07

Sheknowsaboutme many thanks, I’ll take a look at those cottages. We just need a 2 bed with a secure garden that allows 1 dog.

Austereorange we did thankyou. It was perfect. We’ve been cosy all afternoon/evening. Got the log burner going, listening to the wind and rain outside.

Rural life's great until nature gets too feisty. Couldn't get out of our village today as trees down on both roads.

Will be fine by tomorrow morn. Farmers'll get their tractors out.
