The weather warnings are in place until 9am tomorrow. Just keep a v close eye in the forecast for your area. Don’t go in high winds, or if the site is on low ground by a river / beck.

The ground will be muddy.

I'm in cornwall.last night was bad. Today is glorious sunshine but terrible wind. I'm having to stay by the tent all day to reset pegs etc. Wind should die down by 9pm. Tomorrow is apparently wet and remaining days are forecast drizzly rainy spells. They will be fine with a waterproof jacket.

On the plus side I get a chilled day today without the inlaws Wink

I live in the Lakes, today is awful but I think it's better (as it not as wet) for rest of the week? I am supposed to be going camping in Northumberland at the weekend. I am thinking of not going as the top temperature is 12 degrees. Fuck that.

We were going to Stone Henge campsite for 2 nights. I cancelled and we had a night in a hotel instead. No point camping for one night and staying longer than that with rubbish weather was pointless.

FluffyPersian · 25/08/2020 11:24

Nope.

We camped on 4th July, the day the campsites re-opened and the winds were about 17-18mph.... it was horrendous and I got 2 hours sleep as the tent was being bashed about.

We're set to go to Shropshire on Friday and I'm debating whether to go or not..... It seems the winds will die down before then, but if it's more than 12-13mph, I think it's going to be miserable.... (I admit I'm very risk-adverse and don't care about rain, but wind is awful.....).

If you'll spend all your time worrying about the tent / the weather, do you think it will be a fun experience? I regret going in July but was so excited to get out and go camping, that we went anyway...

Hotels is a sensible thing to do, I think....

Grim :(

Not a chance. We're in Peak District and it's torrential. I would not go camping in this!

jitterbugintomybrain · 25/08/2020 11:55

Don't do it, unless you enjoy torturing yourself. We were in a camping pod in the lakes this weekend and went home after 1 night because of the crap weather. We walked in the rain and were like drowned rats.

To make it worse we passed a lovely hotel where the guests looked like they were drinking champagne in the heated outdoor pool in the rain. Maybe it was just a mirage through my soggy wet eyes.

cliffdiver · 25/08/2020 14:09

We camped last year in stormy weather, it put me off for life!

One extreme to the other.... lovely spa hotel with pool! Sad to putting the gear away but everyone is correct, it would be bloody miserable
