Fine needle aspiration - how long before you could drive after?

Just that really! It's in the neck, not sure if that makes a difference.
A couple of hours? 6? Or when?
Thanks

I drove home from the appointment. They use local anestetic so no reason not to for me.

Houndabouttown · 24/08/2020 20:23

As soon as you like (as long as no sedatives or GA, which would be unusual).

sananbaz · 24/08/2020 20:25

Probably you'll be fine straight away unless medical situations make you feel funny. Assuming it's quite a superficial structure they are sampling, it's a quick needle in, suck some cells, and straight out again. Probably will use local anaesthetic too, but that won't affect driving. So it just depends on if you get fainty or not usually.

Yes, possibly a local but not general.

Ah thank you for replying. The letter says not to drive home, but I had one done years ago and am sure I was fine after.

I didn't know I was having one, but it wasn't the awful thing I would have expected. I drove home afterwards, and was perfectly fine.

It's basically the reverse of having an injection so shouldn't impair you in any way

That helps a lot thanks all. Wonder why they have given such dire warnings :-/ I suppose they have to cover themselves which is totally understandable. But I the hosp isnt easy to get to, so was worrying about getting there and back without a car. Am sure I will be fine then from your answers Smile
