Recommendations in Somerset or villages around Bristol for a young family to live?

We are looking to move to village/smaller than Bristol area that is a friendly community for famillies and a nice place to bring children up in.

We are 24 and 25 years old and have a 2 year old and 5 month old so are looking to move before September 2021 so our daughter can settle into a nursery. We are currently on the market so need to be sold first. We were hoping to move to Paulton but would like to keep other places in mind as well.

We would like to stay preferably within an hour drive of Bristol.

Our budget is 350k max, we need at least 3 bedrooms, a driveway for 2+ cars and I'd love a utility! But can compromise on utility if I have to 😂 we'd like to not have to do renovations much as we've had 3 houses in 5 years that we've renovated and moved to. This will be our forever home. Good schools and a community feel is our main criteria.

Any recomendations greatly appreciated. 😊

"within an hour's drive of Bristol" is a variable measure depending on whether you will be planning to commute into Bristol during rush hour on a daily basis. there are plenty of places that are nominally a 30 minute drive from the centre of Bristol if there's not too much traffic but more like 90 minutes at peak times. is that an issue for you?

Street might be a good shout or Castle Cary?

Farrington Gurney - just up the road from Paulton but on the A37, straight into Bristol and an excellent bus service too. I live there! There's a fab facebook page and seem to be lots of young families interacting on there (I'm old no point asking me anything re kids!). There's a school in the village. There's at least one nursery - I know one has just closed due to Covid making it not viable. But you will get more info if you join the fb group and enquire there. Great farm shop and cafe.

@YinuCeatleAyru I work in South Bristol but will only be doing 1 day a week in office so not an issue

@giletrouge thanks I've just joined. Not many houses for sale that suits us yet but were not sold so that doesn't matter. We looked at MSN yesterday too just up from tesco. Is that a nice area?

WBWIFE I'm not knowledgable on MSN - I moved to FG from Bristol and still go in to Bristol a lot because my daughter lives there. We shop in Tescos and occasionally in MSN but that's about it. But it's def a small town, rather than a village. Paulton is supposed to be the biggest 'village' in England I believe? But always strikes me as being a bit too big to think of as a village, too. Whereas FG is def a village, IYSWIM!

I grew up in Ashcott on the A39, great schools, community, shop and pubs. Beautiful village

Also in the vicinity of FG / MSN / Paulton is High Littleton. It has grown hugely since I grew up there but from the village FB group there seems to be a lot going on for kids and the school has a good reputation I think. When they move to secondary it would probably be MSN unless you choose to send them.into Bath.

I have no idea what it's like to live in or what the schools are like but I drove through Blagdon last year and thought it looked lovely.

Also worth looking north of Bristol. Commute into the city is easy and places like Thornbury are fab for families. Local schools are good too. We moved from a village on the south side to north of Bristol for that reason!
