80 year old gift ideas please!

Hi all

You were all so good with my last gift dilemma.... I present you with the next!

My 80 year old mother. She doesn't drink or love sweet things either. Mostly loves anything to go with her family Smile.

I want to stay away from anything personalised or engraved. One year I bought her make up, which she loved but I don't think I can go for a repeat!

What do you buy your mums?

Thanks

My mother was 90 last week and for the last few years has said she doesn't want any more "clutter" in her house. So we have gone for experiences - afternoon tea for two, nails done for her/me/my daughter, last week each of us cooked her a meal on a different day (she is perfectly capable but enjoys the element of surprise and being waited on). She also loves new clothes and doesn't count that as clutter. Flowers and plants always go down well - she's built a rockery in lockdown so we bought appropriate plants. Bath stuff of the luxury sort.

Does she like pampering? I know someone who for her 40th had a spa day with a number of treatments but her friends had a rota so for each treatment a different friend joined her.

My 80 year old father has recently developed an interest in linguistics so I've bought him a few books over the years.

I journal, but get various family members to write about an experience with your mum, happy or funny stories, but leave a page or two blank for your mum to write her recollections.

A camera - Polaroid type, I got one a few year ago and it has been very popular at family occasions, my dad likes it because he can take actual photos to show his friends.
One year I got my mum a box of flowers, it was literally a cardboard box you dug a hole and put it in the ground and it grew into a nice display.

A family get together? I managed to organise one for my dad's 80th, we have family all over the country so it was a complete surprise.

Totally out of left field - a pedicure / visit from a chiropodist if she doesn't already use one.

Thank you everyone!

My mother also hates 'clutter' or more 'stuff'. For her 85th we went away for a night in a nice hotel, dinner out and a spa day- she would be horrified by the idea of slipper boots or a microwave hottie Grin.
