Poorly cat - advice if you're a cat person

Hi
My friends elderly rescue cat isn't very well.
Until she can get her to the vet tomorrow, does anyone have basic advice?

She's walking a bit lopsided. Lost her balance and fell over.

She hasn't eaten properly for 2 days though she's not a big eater anyway.
Hiding under the bed.

We've syringed 15ml of water which she took. She's sat on lap leaning her head into friends arm - she's not a lap cat.

Anything else we can do?

Thanks

Ring the vet. Get the cat to a vet. Get the vet to come out to the cat. As per PP get someone on a local FB page to assist. Does the owner not have insurance? Irresponsible if they cant afford vet bills. 11 is not old. Christ. Poor poor cat!

11 is not old at all.

But if you really can’t get to the vet until tomorrow then all you can do is keep her calm and comfortable. If your friend has a cat carrier she might be happier in there as she won’t try and walk around.

Honestly 18 is elderly for cats not 11.

You should be phoning for their advice regardless of travel

Agree with other PPs. 11 is middle aged for a cat, not at all old. Ring the vets and see what they say, but I would be doing everything possible to get the cat seen by an out of hours vet tonight, if not the cat needs to be seen first thing in the morning when your friend's regular vets open. Good luck, I really hope the cat is ok.

FlySheMust · 24/08/2020 07:31

Can people not read? The vet is a 40 minute drive away. A single parent can't afford a taxi at this time of night for that far.

Piling on the criticism doesn't help.

How is the cat this morning?

bodgeitandscarper · 24/08/2020 08:04

Not eating and hiding away are signs of pain, which cats are very good at hiding. I hope the cat gets seen this morning, it would be good to have an update.

Bluesheep8 · 24/08/2020 09:55

Yes, is there an update on the poor cat?
Also 11 is by no means old. My cat is about that age and he is not an old man by any stretch. Previous puss was 22 when he died.

Ishihtzuknot · 24/08/2020 09:58

Is it possible the cat has been hit by a car? 11 is not an old cat, mine lived to 20. I hope the cat was seen to urgently and is ok this morning.

Bluesheep8 · 24/08/2020 11:35

Hopefully op might come back and tell us....

Ishihtzuknot · 24/08/2020 13:49

I doubt she’ll be back, if they left the cat without treatment overnight it’s unlikely to be a good outcome sadly

Bluesheep8 · 24/08/2020 13:58

You're probably right, sadly. Poor cat.

Paranoidmarvin · 24/08/2020 14:40

Fingers crossed the cat is okay x

lljkk · 24/08/2020 14:43

I think your friend did the right thing, OP. Take care. x

purdypuma · 24/08/2020 18:54

Please don't let her suffer. This is how my 17 cat was when she had a stroke unfortunately resulting in her being PTS. She was so scared & distressed as the stroke caused her to go blind. I would suggest a taxi or arrange a lift as she shouldn't be left to suffer.

Words · 24/08/2020 18:59

So distressed to read this.
I would think stroke or car accident.
I hope thé poor thing was taken to a vet as soon as possible.
11 really isn't old at all.
I'm sorry to read of friend's financial difficulties and child care issues but honestly, the cat should come first in this situation.
