Can you make pulled pork? Can you help me to make it?

I'm not a great cook but I'm trying since lockdown!

There are so many recipes but I'd love an actual tried and tested one.

I have casserole dishes and a Pressure King Pro with a slow cooker option.

I know that pork shoulder is the best cut for it.

I'd like it to be something can use in burritos / sandwiches / with salad.

I just plonk the pork joint in the slow cooker and tip a bottle of BBQ sauce over it.

This is a brilliant recipe and I use it a lot. Serve with mashed potato, corn on the cob and coleslaw. Use in baps etc. Lush.

Do the 'pulling' while the joint's still hot. Two forks. Yum!

That's the one I use. I'm veggie but the rest of my family tell me it's very good.

2tsp Paprika
2tsp Cumin
2tsp Pepper
2tsp Brown Sugar
1tsp Salt.

Use the above as a rub for the pork.

Put the pork in skin side up into the pan. Add 2 mug fulls of cider.

Cover and cook at 130° for 4-8 hours.

Remove the skin, shred the meat.

Mix the meat with BBQ sauce and some of the liquor from cooking.

I do mine in an instant pot so it depends if you want the crispy bit or not. Mine does not have that, just falls apart as you take it out. The ease of cooking it this way makes up for the non-crispy bit.

You can stick it in a slow cooker with a jar of bbq sauce over it. Or you can make a dry rub.

I used to make my own sauce from scratch but we are a few years down the line and I scrapped that. We have tried about 10 different shop bought sauces, we currently love Kinder BBQ sauce but that is from Costco.

For my instant pot one, I just stick it on saute, add boiling water, maybe some apple juice (to 2 cups), then the stuff you would use for a dry rub, (mine has cinnamon too) stick all that into the water/juice, I cut the joint up into 2 inch slices, submerge them, cancel the saute and do manual pressure cooker. My 2.6kg pork "cooks" in 80 minutes, plus the usual coming to pressure, then the natural release is long maybe 40 minutes. Then I remove the pork pieces, shred and mix in the shop bought BBQ sauce. It is a leisurely thing.

We serve it with baby potatoes, halved and cooked in the actifry, sour cream and a home made fresh salsa, maybe a brioche roll too.

Someone has posted it above but wanted to second the slimming world recipe it’s really good!

Also I’ve just got a pork shoulder put it into the slow cooker with bbq sauce or one of those packet marinades you buy for bbq pulled pork, spread it all over and put on low for 8 hours then pull it apart with two forks!

This is the one I use. I find all her recipes straightforward to follow and never had a failure.

Ginandplatonic · 23/08/2020 11:34

Should say I’ve never made the slow cooker version - I make it in the oven which she also gives instructions for.

SingleHandSue · 23/08/2020 11:34

I just whack a gammon joint in the slow cooker with enough coke to cover it up to about 3/4. On high for 1 hour then on low for another 5 or 6. It falls apart when taken out and I just use forks to pull it apart.
Bloody gorgeous.

Ginandplatonic · 23/08/2020 11:42

Also I know you asked for pork but this slow roasted leg of lamb is a massive favourite in our house and so easy! I’ve cooked it for hours longer than the recipe says and it still comes out moist and perfect.

Amazing, thanks! Can't believe I've never made it and you guys do on a regular basis!

I'm not keen on tomato based pulled pork so I've bought cider - do I need to boil th alcohol off before closing the lid?

OP posts:
Jellycatspyjamas · 23/08/2020 17:34

No, just tip the cider in, the amount of alcohol left will be minimal. Pulled pork is a joy.

Anordinarymum · 23/08/2020 17:37

I'm terribly sorry but I just couldn't resist this. My partner is an expert at pulling pork. I am in the process of looking for my coat just now

I know.. it's Sunday :(

Bridecilla · 25/08/2020 14:36

I've gone with a mixture of all your recipes (avoiding the tomato ones)

A lump of pork is currently in the PKP on slow cook for 8 hours with a small bottle of cider, some mustard, salt and pepper, onions and garlic and brown sugar. Oh and I chucked a sprig of rosemary in for good luck. Honestly, no the wonder I cant cook!

I'm planning on blending the sauce. Wish me luck!
