Why are these masks / face coverings so cheap - is something wrong with them?

Went on to Amazon to see if I could get some disposable face coverings other than in medical blue? Loads of choice of colours - but they are shockingly cheap - eg these ones at £5.99, including postage, for x30.

www.amazon.co.uk/MyCozy-Disposable_Face_Masks-Protective_Cover-Woven_Fabric-Protection_Pads/dp/B08DNYTB6Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=coloured+disposable+face+masks&sprefix=coloured+disposabl&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1598166687&sr=8-3

And these aren’t the cheapest ones?

Is this to good to be true? Or has manufacturing just ramped up?

@Stompythedinosaur The masks I bought said on the box they don't protect from viruses. Fucking pointless but if it means people don't start having a meltdown when I pop into Asda so be it 🤷‍♂️

vanilla I didn't say it wasn't legal I said it wouldn't protect you or stop you passing anything to anyone else.

Regardless of the letter of the law, I think we all know that we are not being asked to wear a mask for the decorative effect. How about focusing on being a decent citizen and trying not to spread germs to others ratget than how we can get around a law that is for the good of everyone?

Re efficacy of fabric masks I agree there's not a huge amount of evidence saying they are effective. We know that a single layer of cotton is less than 3% effective as there is a randomised trial about that. Hence why we should be trying hard to use masks that are better quality than that. I'd suggest that the water resistant layer is what makes the difference between the 3% efficacy of a single layer of cotton and the 56% efficacy of surgical masks.

OP, please don’t re-use your disposable masks, that’s just grim.

Those masks look just the same as most of the disposable masks being sold in most shops. It is possible to buy a pack from Amazon at around £6 for 50. Or even less if you look carefully, It is not that these are cheap, but that we are being ripped off by the shops.

I just don't believe they make much difference. We're all wearing them across Europe and cases are rising.
