I feel like the only one. I love the holidays, even with covid when we havent been able to do as much as usual. I just love having the kids at home. It feels like Everyone on social media is desperate to shove them out the door and into school

I'm hoping this last week goes as slowly as possible

Oddly it's felt quick this year. Between 5 months of being institutionalised into doing fuck-all in the house, the loss of guilt at failing at home school, more decent weather than washouts and things more interesting than yet another fucking walk opening up since July, the holidays part was a vast improvement on March to June.

They need to go back for the social interraction with their peers and the mental stimilation. We all need a routine, although I think I've now caught up with 3 years worth of lie-ins that I haven't had in the past decade.

DH has been WFH throughout and it has taken a little intensity off the summer holidays in that I've had a bit more freedom to go out and be able to leave the DCs at home.

I've been saying that I'll be skipping out of the playground singing (I've come bloody close some years) but it could be oddly emotional having that first big hit of some normality in the structure of our lives being restoree in 5.5 months. Hopefully the DCs won't be in Klingon mode... DS2 has had some days in sports club which will help. DS1 does not do that kind of thing.

DS had 3 weeks back at school so that helped it actually feel like a holiday. I have tried very hard to make it fun for him, 2 UK holidays, forest school, play dates where possible and swimming, climbing, day trips.
I’m sad it’s ending especially because I am going back to work as well!
It will be great for him to get back to school though, he loved it in the summer term. His school is a tiny independent primary so getting it as Covid safe as possible has been a bit easier for them- they’ve employed a full time housekeeper for one, and class sizes are 20 or less.

It will be very strange not having DS(15) in the house. DH and I will still be WFH so will definitely be a teenage hole in daily routine, but there will be some food left in the cupboards Grin

Yes! When speaking to friends I’m the only one who feels this way.. but I’ve absolutely loved having them at home and if I could home school then I 100% would.

Normally I am but not this year. September feels like the restart of normality that ground to a halt in March. Just hope it lasts.......

Mine have made working from home a lot more bearable.
