Who has recently been?

Any top tips?

I'm organising a day out to do the giraffe experience.

Has anyone done the giraffe experience and can say what to expect? Very vague reviews on line .

Are there any covered picnic areas incase the weather is against us ?

Lots of planning and money has gone into this family birthday trip !

Its so difficult to get through to the park as well (understandable atm , but still frustrating)

Thanks in advance

Yes, there is at least one undercover picnic area near the Big Bugs play area.
No, I’ve never done the giraffe experience.
If possible, download the park’s app before you go (it’s free). There is a really great ‘Plan’ feature and my littlest spent the morning before we went creating an interactive list of all the animals he wanted to see. He ended up ticking most of them! It gives the option to click on each animal and learn a bit about them, so this kept him busy for quite a while. He was really excited to get going and tick off some of the animals on his list.
There is no paper map given on arrival, so the app came in handy as it has a map on it. There’s also a map on their website.
There is a LOT of walking to do at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, that’s for sure, it is huge. So if you’ve little ones you probably want to bring the pushchair.
There is no limit on the amount of time you can stay, we stayed for about 3 hours.
There was a queue to exit the park via the shop as they are only allowing a certain number of people in there at a time. We chose to just Exit and there was no queue.

We went yesterday. There were high winds so some of the picnic areas next to play areas were closed. There were plenty of picnic tables by the front entrance though.
You’ll need to take your picnic in with you as they’re not allowing re-entry into zoo.
Definitely download the app beforehand.

My DS did the giraffe experience a year ago, I went with him to the park, everything relating to the experience was inside (it was a wet day when we went).

DS has been interested in giraffes for many years, saw them in the wild in SA as a teenager on a volunteering trip, and the experience was his 21st birthday present from friends. He enjoyed it, loved getting close and being able to feed them, but also felt it wasn’t really worth the money and wouldn’t do it again, despite his love for them.

We love it out at the wildlife park; don't live far away so often get the bus out there (not this summer though - socially distanced, sparsely packed buses don't work well with a child who gets travel sick & has to get off a couple of times on the way :( )

I'd be interested to know how your experience is - afore mentioned child would love to do one of their animal encounters.

(Btw, not sure if you're bothered about seeing the polars or not but they lost Victor yesterday so there are only three in the bigger ecnlosure atm :( )

Hi guys we went today , luckily the weather held off !

We had a good time , the experience was lovely, just us two and a whole wheelbarrow of leaves for the giraffes.

We got really close, we could feel their warm breath close !

The keeper was lovely, and spent a good half an hour chatting away and was very friendly.

However, it was very expensive for what we got 😬
If money is no object and for a one off bucket list experience, its lovely.

We had a brill day .

Pleased you had a good time. Think I'm still going to have to do it.
Dd fed a tiger last year. Paid £30 for about ten minutes and a few bits of meat at the end of a very long stick!
My turn!
