With no school clubs, what's your plan for wraparound care if you work?

I'm starting stress out that most likely I'll have drop at least 5 hours of work. Children are not be dropped at the same time and we have to follow very odd routes to do so.

I know everybody is trying their best but I don't think the current plans will make it easy for working parents.

I’m trying to work out if ds (12) can get off school bus later on route and catch a public bus home. He’s barely old enough but it might work.

But I’ve been made redundant so that’s not my primary issue. At the moment I can collect him from the bus stop.

Hopefully any new job will offer wfh or flexibility. Sad

Fortunately, my daughter's school's breakfast club and after school club are open from the first day of term. We would be screwed without it as we both teach and obviously need to get into school before the students.

i have two secondary school children who get public transport to schools in completely different directions/LAs with different start and finish times.

I want to pick up and drop off where I can. I'm back in the office soon but hoping I can wfh in part, DH firm remain vague on when going back, but hoping he can share, even though thw one is a 1hr round trip twice daily (shorter than his commute still).

Well we’ve just been notified that they won’t be opening. No reason given, just that they won’t. So we’re fucked. We can’t shift our hours around without me going part time and taking a massive financial hit and with 2 weeks notice, it’d be a miracle to get anything major approved.

I know schools have it tough right now and I in no way want to bash schools or teachers but I’m pretty cross considering most other schools in the area are opening theirs and at the beginning of the summer holidays they gave the impression they would be to and asked all parents to get their preferred days in.

IWantAPetUnicorn · 22/08/2020 10:38

@Gurtcha those other schools are probably unaware of the updated guidance at the moment. I’ve found a lot of providers are not aware of the restrictions on after school providers!

Ours are opening but as others have said you need to book in advance now whereas before you could just turn up on the day. Ours are being split into 2 bubbles of infants and juniors.

Who says I’m not angry at the government? I’ve plenty of reasons to be angry at the government and I am.

DP works in a primary school in a very deprived area and they are opening their wrap around care- the parents in the community simply could not survive their day to day life without it! They just separate tables into classes and students don't move out of the bubble that they're in during school time. A couple more staff are needed but most teachers stay behind anyway

I understand its difficult to organise logistics wise, but if school can open I'm sure there could be some provisions made for breakfast and after school clubs. Even allocating separate days to separate year groups would be some help!
