A mouse ...eeek

Spotted a mouse in the dinin* room that’s now my home office. We have a cat who presumably brought it in and forgot about it.

Do humane traps work? Just eek. It was plump.

No get poison, lots of it and traps. Traps that kill the mice. P,ump=pregnant. Mice don’t live alone. There will be more
Put poison where cat won’t go

The cat probably brought it in as you say. So hopefully it will be a single mouse.

Humane traps do indeed work. I had one. Got at b&q. Put it at the side of a room against the wall as they run round perimeters. Shut the doors so it will stay in the room and hopefully get hungry and make its way into the trap. They generally sleep during the day and come out at night. I can’t remember what I put in mine. Peanut butter I think. Chocolate is supposed to be good too.

Just check the trap every day so the poor terrified creature isn’t in there for any longer than it has to be as there’s no water in it.

Take it somewhere outside preferably quite far away from your house and release.

Poison is fine if you need to use it for an infestation but with a cat in the house who may try and eat the poison - or eat the dead mouse who has already eaten the poison I wouldn’t risk it.

Humane traps don’t work. You need the mice dead, gone.get poison, traps

@Elieza thank you. Cat and a puppy. Really don't want to use poison unless I have to.

Well if the cat brought it in it's likely to just be the one. I have 2 cats and have had great success with the humane traps. I use peanut butter, the mouse goes in and it closes behind them. Then take it outside and it opens easily so it can hop away! The only thing with them is you should check them every half an or so as the mouse can get it a bit stressed in there if left hours.
I'd be very cautious of using bait. My dog ate some rat bait once (not put out by me) I got him to the vets within 20 mins and after staying a few days he was ok, but could have easily gone the other way.

captainprincess · 22/08/2020 12:21

@Elieza absolutely agree with you. If there is an infestation traps are the way to go, never bait, it's a cruel cruel way to kill something. Not quick and the potential of something else eating it.

Elieza · 22/08/2020 12:36

...and the other problem with using poison indoors is that the mouse could crawl under the washing machine or behind a full size unit and die. And after a few days will smell. Awful.

SentientAndCognisant · 22/08/2020 12:42

Clearly you don’t to use poison, fair enough
However if used appropriately it is effective treatment

Ariela · 22/08/2020 13:06

Get an electronic trap, they're ace. Pop peanut butter in the end, mouse goes in and just as it sinks teeth into the peanut butter it gets zapped, instant death, no blood, no mess. Open lid, tip out somewhere out of sight for you that the wildlife can easily access to dispose of dead mouse for you - we tip ours in an open area and wait for the red kites to spot

hedgehogger1 · 22/08/2020 14:43

If the cat bought it in hopefully it's just one. Was it brown or grey? Garden ones tend to be brown, infest your house more grey :)

Nicklebox · 22/08/2020 15:04

Just put a glass over it and slide something solid like some card or a table mat underneath and take it outside and let it go. My cat brings in mice all the time i'm catching about 2 or 3 a week somthimes

GolightlyMrsGolightly · 22/08/2020 17:13

Normally I would Just catch it but it’s gone to ground under the floorboard....
