We are going up to Northumberland next week and are planning on spending a day in Edinburgh, we've booked camera obsucura in the afternoon and we're just planning on just having a mooch round in the morning.
It will be me, dh and four kids aged 5-15 could anyone recommend anywhere nice for lunch?
Not super fancy but not a cafe either would like it to feel like a treat but not a ten course tasting menu with matching wineGrin

Also if there is anything you would really recommend us seeing or doing in the morning that would be great too, thank you!

Camera Obscura is great, you should go to Chop House on Market Street for lunch!

Depends on your cuisine tastes, But DH and I love Bubba Q's, it's American style slow cooked bbq food, it's on the royal mile close to all the touristy stuff. It's either on eat out to help out or they offer 20% off on their Facebook page.

Across from it is the burgers and beers grillhouse that we love too, their burgers are fab and the prices aren't that bad for the royal mile. Oh and yes they are both on the royal mile, but its actually called High st. Both are maybe 10 min walk from camera obscura.

Roseleaf is fab but is in Leith so a bit out of the city..good for the Royal Yacht Britannia though

If you like French cuisine, La Gavroche, on Jeffrey St (between Royal Mike and the station).

For Scottish, the Witchery, just across from Camera Obscura.

Both assuming you are making most of Richi’s deal.

You can get burgers anywhere.

If weather is nice you’d probably enjoy just wandering aroundPrinces Street Gardens and maybe walking up through them to Castle/old Town/Royal Mile. If wet could try Museum of Scotland On Chambers Street if it’s open (you may have to book a slot) - that would be a good call given respective child ages. There are numerous restaurants and cafes around there - nice takeaway pizza place Forrest Road or chains on George IV Bridge further along. Vittorias is a good Italian family restaurant close to Museum. We also love Dynamic Earth near Scottish Parliament/Holyrood Palace which is theme park like geology attraction where you get a lift ‘back in time’ and go through various zones with iceberg, volcano and moving floor, 3D show etc. Pricey though.

Foundry 39 on Queensferry Street.

Copper Blossom on George St

Some fab ideas thank you will have a proper google when the smaller ones are in bed.
Dynamic earth looks really good but website says closed at the mo, if the weather is nice (or at least not throwing it down) I think just wandering around in the morning might be the way forward....

Just wanted to say thanks for all the tips we ate at the chop house which was great we also loved camera Obscura, what an amazing city we are already planning our next trip as we saw so many things we wanted to do but ran out of time even the rain didn't dampen our spirits!

If you like Mexican ( real Mexican not all that heavy tex mex crap) then Miros Cantina Mexicana is amazing.

Oh just seen I was a bit late to the party there!
