By Nadia Hermann.

I’m finding it very interesting. It addresses all the myths around weight loss and provides research to support the claims.

I’m very overweight but have definitely been affected by all the talk about weight loss - honestly to the point where it seemed like there was no point trying.

It’s very interesting and I recommend it for anyone who is struggling with their weight.

I’m just bumping this. I just finished the book and honestly found it excellent. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to lose weight but is struggling to get in the right mindset.

Her overal message is that it’s not as complicated as it sounds.

To me, it’s not that it sounds complicated, it’s that people make it sound so simple, and yet...!

“Eat less, move more” is such a simplification of all the emotional, practical and hormonal elements that affect our food and exercise choices.

If it can help me with those, I’ll have a look!

FWIW I did low carb for several weeks - the first fortnight I lost a stone. During all of the following weeks I lost a total of one single pound!

I repeated it recently and the first two weeks I lost.... -2lbs. Yes I actually put on weight doing the exact same things. Grin.

So the interactions in my body (I have thyroid problems and sleep issues that both affect me physically and emotionally). I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll always just be a bit fat, and that’s ok. I will still try and be active, make some sensible food choices in amongst the crap ones, and stop beating myself up because I’m apple shaped instead of hourglass. Yes it may cause me health issues in future, but I don’t smoke, don’t drink, I eat plenty of veg, and I have a relatively stress free life, so hopefully I’m already benefiting from some of those factors.

Oooh this sounds interesting. Is it quite positive? I’m really sick of reading stuff about how impossible it is to lose weight and how 98% of people gain it back or whatever

It’s SO positive. She de-bunks all the myths around people gaining it back and how we can eat too little etc. Oh also about how its bad to lose it quickly etc.

I found it so helpful because I can get so
Much in my head and so anxious about it.

She just talks about how, if you are in a calorie deficit, you will lose weight. End of.

I’d love to discuss it with some other people!

I think she would suggest that even though you low carbed, maybe you still had more calories than you needed.

She addresses the issues of thyroid.

I found it super helpful. The woman who wrote it has lost 13 stone and kept it off so she is writing from
Experience which I liked.

Nope. Logged every one of them and was around 1000-1100 (I weigh 15 stone so that should be low enough to lose something, and indeed was low enough when I was 16 stone at the start!) and I combined it with intermittent fasting. Keto sticks showed I was in Ketosis, but it just didn’t do what it was supposed to do, despite low carb, low cal and IF combined!

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 21/08/2020 23:45

I’m willing to give it a go, but I’m just saying that our bodies are complicated and yes, I’m sure if I was stuck down a well without any food I’d lose weight Grin but doing it as part of a concerted campaign just isn’t that simple for some people.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 21/08/2020 23:46

Strangely the only times I’ve ever lost significant weight have been at times of emotional turmoil so I’m pretty sure that my stress responses make a big difference too.

bakereld · 21/08/2020 23:48

It's very easy to be taken in by all of the rhetoric around dieting i.e that there's no point in dieting, you will be miserable, gain it all back, too complicated, too much effort etc

For the majority of people, calories in - calories out will work for them. Tracking calories honestly and accurately is also key, and the people who find they aren't losing weight will more than likely have a diagnosable condition, and should see their GP.

It’s not a specific diet that she recommends. She works through all the diet myths. She says that it’s important to work out what will work for you and what you enjoy eating etc.

It’s definitely thought provoking.
