Can anyone else taste their eye drops?

I appreciate this is a bit weird, but over the past 2 days I've had eye drops every 2 hours for conjunctivitis. After about 5 minutes after putting eye drops in, I start to get a bitter taste at the back of my throat, does that mean our eyes constantly leaks into our throats??

I know what you mean. I also feel like my eyes are filling with water (like in Tom and Jerry) when I get my ears syringed!

Ive never had my ears syringed but I'd love to try it!

Yep I used eye drops for several years due to iritis and uveitis. One of them was very vinegary.

there is a duct to drain tears that links to your nose, and then the nose links to the throat.

If you ever get yellow eye drops at the optician then you'll likely have dayglo yellow bogies after :D

Your eye drainage is linked to the back of your nose which then links to your mouth. To avoid after inserting drop close your eyes and of push gently in the corner of your eye to avoid

Yes they are connected.. why do you think you get a runny nose on a cold day? Your eyes water from the cold and drain away into the back of your nose.

Yes, put your finger over the tear duct in the corner of your eye to help prevent this.

The draining from your eyes to your nose and throat is also why if you are really sobbing crying your nose runs and your throat gets all clogged up.

Yes always means they’ve gone in, I’ve had loads of drops and am used to this.

Those drops for conjunctivitis taste disgusting! Agree with the PPs who said to press down on the corner of the eye/nose - I found I had to do it for at least a minute to stop getting the taste.

Yes! It’s ghastly- I usually have a big drink of squash ready for after to try and get the taste away!

Me too, and DH. Also, one of our dogs always sneezes and rubs her snout when she has eye drops.

Yeah, conjunctivitis drops are rotten :( I hope it clears up soon

Close your mouth, pinch your nose and you can "blow" through your eyes.

Yes, that's how you know you've put them in properly! Ack, ack, though Plus for the conjunctivitis, unless it was caused by hayfever, in which case

I taste eye drops, cannula flush and any IV meds.
I also have a very strong sense of smell, always wondered if they are related!

There are chemicals you can taste due to skin contact, e.g. DMSO.

I had something put in my eyes at the opticians once when I was checked out for contact lenses, it glows in the dark/blacklight so they can check for scratches on your eyeball (was how it was explained to me).

I get very watery eyes whenever this is done, and my nose ran with actual glow-in-the-dark snot! Very impressive!

It's all connected. Which is why they are telling us not to touch our faces if we're out and about and touching other things. Because the virus can get in to our respiratory tract through our mouth, nose or eyes. ]
