If you were invited to one of these meetings what would you expect? I've been in same profession a decade and never had one before!

I work in the nhs and I would assume that it's a meeting to discuss your performance. Identify areas for further development and agree actions to take to achieve that.

I'm not sure. I have a yearly appraisal and it's different to that. My appraisals have always gone really well. I've been told it's a positive meeting though

What do you work as? I'm sure it is a supportive measure.

I would assume it's either a subtle way to work on weaker skills or to dole out "development opportunities".

Well in the corporate world you have two seperate things:

  • An appraisal: How have you done against your targets, performance review
  • A development plan: Where do you want to go in your career next, what personal development and training do you need to get there. What are your strengths and weaknesses, how can you use your strengths more or work on weaknesses.

I would tell my staff not to stress or worry about it as in my area its an informal strategy to support staff who may be struggling. However I would worry a wee bit if I was in that situation so understand your question.

@Bairnsmum05 thanks - I'm not struggling though or been given the impression I am! I have quite an extreme workload

I can well imagine your workload is extreme. Maybe it's a new support mechanism they are introducing into the team which will hopefully be a good thing. I hope it works out OK.

@Bairnsmum05 it was to offer me a move to another team - for suppprt with a specific task in exchange for mentoring the newly qualified workers. I have accepted it as it's a positive move!

Ooh that sounds exciting! Well done. Smile
